My total for the year is 70, 2 of which were finished this morning and both of which were Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. The first was a Kindle version from the Patricia Clark Memorial Library which I finished around 2:30 this morning, and the other was a Librivox version of the same book read by Bob Neufeld which I finished about an hour ago.

Also, there are only 99 reading days left in the year for anyone keeping track. Much more interesting than shopping days till Christmas.

I haven't formally participated in the reading challenge, but my goal was to surpass last year's total, which I did today when I finished book 126.

I, on the other hand, am woefully behind. 24 books to catch up. I doubt I can do that, but I'm hoping to make some inroads during October to at least finish the year only a little behind.

Another month I didn't read as much as previous Septembers. However, I'm still on track to read more than 100 books (according to Goodreads I'm still 18 books ahead) and I only have 7000 pages to go before reaching my 40000 page goal for this year. Even at the speed I'm currently reading I should be able to make that.

In September I took a month off from my reading challenge of completing 12 pre-chosen categories, I was 3 categories ahead so that wasn't a problem. This month I'm only allowed to read stand alone books, which is an opportunity to read several books that have been lingering on my TBR list, hopefully.

Although I like this category challenge I do notice that I read less of my currently active series than I normally would. So next year I might do something with categories again, but either not every month or less books per month per category.

September was a bad month for my TBR, and only avoided being my worst reading month of the year (in books completed) thanks to me throwing in a 150-page book at the last minute.

So I've slipped behind again on my main goal, but I'm not too worried yet.

Of my other goals and challenges, official and unofficial, I worked out yesterday that I have 8 books I need to read this year: I have 1 book left for my A-Z series challenge; 1 book for my tie-in fiction challenge; 2 books for my BSFA winners challenge (which should really be 3); and 4 authors from my author list. There is no crossover between any of these challenges, although they can largely be combined with other things that don't end this year.

At 70 books read, I'm 15 books ahead of target, and have 5 to go in my Something for Everyone categories challenge. I'm just behind my average page count per book target of 300 pages, with an average book size of 296 pages. Just need to read a couple of tomes before year end.

How does Goodreads count your total? I haven't found a way to add re-reads or additional translations to my lifetime count, and I suspect that I'd have no better luck if I did one of their yearly challenges.

If you choose a different version you can get GR to count something more than once. Not particularly useful if you read the same version and really want to keep it accurate but for just a count it should suffice.

The way I have done this is go to a different version of the book (All Editions> Click on title of new version) and then scroll down to "My Review". On the same line that says "My Review" there should be a link to "Review this edition" which lets you put in a new review for the same book. It then shows up in the GoodReads Stats widgets twice, once for each edition.

I can't confirm that the GoodReads yearly challenges work the same way but I would expect them to.

I'll try that. I have one book this year that I read in two different translations, one that I read in both ebook and audiobook formats, one audiobook re-read of a paperback I read decades ago, and that's just off the top of my head. Six books, of which I have Goodreads bragging rights for only three.
