Kindle problems with Windows 10 AU - Page 3

I too will wait till tomorrow and then try Jons suggestion.

I do use a webcam. I don't know if the problem would be present or not.

I've downloaded the update manually, as described in the linked article (basically the same method Jon suggested) and it's downloaded and installed fine. Windows Update is now saying that my system is up to date.

Took me a while to figure out where to find that, I think I am stuck on 48% on something in the update section. No clue what it is and no clue about what is in the links posted. I am not comfortable with most computer stuff so it will have to get here by itself somehow. Or not I guess. I don't see anything on that settings page on my computer to make it stop, or to re-try. So there it sits I guess.

I don't even know if I have this AU update, it doesn't say AU anywhere, just says I got some update on the 6th. But some cumulative thingie is stuck at 48%.

It's really, really easy to fix.

Download and run the update in the following URL:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/...0d41efef0d.msu

Reboot your PC after the installation is complete (which it will prompt you to do, anyway).

Job done.

Hmm, I did the thing, but now it says in a popup some updates were not installed. Some security update with a long number after it. When I close that window, as its the only option its gone and no clue what now.
But since you said restart, i am going to do that and see if that gets it going.

This is why I don't do computer stuff. Clueless is me.

Doing the re-try on that update page on my computer, went to 45% and seems its going to be stuck again there. This did not work for me apparently. Only thing changed is that it says 45 instead of 48 now.
Went to the link in a post upthread and clicked there on the direct to 64 bit thingie and its doing something now at least. So maybe 2nd time is the charm.

Can you check one thing, please?

Press "Windows Key + R" on your keyboard, and type "winver" into the "Run" box. Does the resulting box say:

Microsoft Windows 10
Version 1607 (.....)

or does it say "Version 1511", rather than 1607?

I am on my desktop now and it has some stuck thingie too, but different, some defender thingie is stuck. It got the other stuff I think yesterday looking at that update log thingie. That one says 1511.

My netbook, which is what I was dealing with earlier, had 1607 listed as a recent update like last week or so. Let me go downstairs and check if its back on after the last reboot.....

Ok, netbook says 1607, but even after that last update try, it now says could not get update, some bla bla, cumulative thingie didn't update because the PC was off with bunch of numbers. Then it tells me to look online? It will keep trying? WTH.

Totally lost here.

I guess it will just have to be as it is. As long as I can still use the computer. If I can't anymore, I guess I am screwed then.

My desktop is W10 pro, my netbook is the regular version.

eta: weird. When I clicked the retry button under the stuff where it said it couldn't update and all that, I did it and after a bit it now says its up to date. Hitting check for update says again, up to date. Like it just went poof. Oh well, Its running still.

Now I have to figure out the desktop. It looks a bit different there. A defender update is trying to download and it just keeps flashing and staying at 0. But going into details on the settings it says there is something else waiting for download says "update for windows 10 1511". Since the other one is just flashing and trying, its not doing this one I guess. No clue. Again, it will just have to fix itself as I just don't know what I am doing, obviously.

1607 is Win10 Anniversary Update
1511 is the older version of Win10.

What you've seen on your netbook is normal. The "couldn't install updates because the PC was turned off" message was referring to the other updates released yesterday. It's now caught up with itself and everything's fine.

Ah thanks. I guess my desktop is behind then. It is trying to get some stuff though and maybe its just all over loaded with all the AU issues.

Thanks for all the help. At least with you guys here, I know that I won't blow up anything trying. Going out on the web for this stuff with all the geek speak and trusting strangers that way is not something I am willing to do. If I could even understand half of what is being said.

The latest Windows 10 Insider Preview build (14926) includes a fix for the blue screen plugging/unplugging some Paperwhites and Voyages. Got the chance to test this today on a co-worker's Paperwhite that crashes his laptop consistently and it went through 20 plug/eject/unplug cycles without issue before we ran out of lunch break. Hopefully, this fix will make it into the mainstream soon.

My machines (desktop and laptop) upgraded to the Anniversary Update. I had a minor issue with my USB wifi (linksys AE2500) but it was never approved to work with win 10 of any flavor. After reinstalling the driver it works fine.

I tested the Kindle crash thing and all is working fine here with my Kindle K2 and Kindle Fire on both desktop (win 10 Pro) and laptop (win 10 Home). Not sure exactly what/why/who is having issues.
