And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. Through the unknown, remembered gate When the last of earth left to discover Is that which was the beginning; At the source of the longest river The voice of the hidden waterfall And the children in the apple-tree Not known, because not looked for But heard, half-heard, in the stillness Between two waves of the sea.” ― T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets Eliot was quite clear where one must start reading with Pratchett... and with life. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Can I just observe that JSWolf just made me rethink my choice of posting bargains here?
He has beaten this ![]() ![]() I am genuinely afraid to mention Terry Pratchett or Discworld anywhere on MobileRead, for any reason whatsoever, lest he barge in. ... Given that I started this thread, and given that the purpose of this thread is deals on ebooks, can we please stick to the topic of the thread and post deals, rather than unrelated quarrels about where to start reading those ebooks? If we cannot stick to the topic, I may find myself losing interest in this thread. ![]() I am okay with some minor offtopic posts, generally having to do with why people should want to buy the books in question, but after umpteen posts on the matter, all given in a quarrelsome fashion and with no intent of being helpful (to the actual godforsaken topic, which is indeed frequently forsaken), I can no longer deal with this complete and utter garbage!!! |

A joke is not a joke, the thousandth time it is said to the same people.
Sorry, but my sense of humor is actually quite capable, and this isn't humor. It hasn't been humor since at least a year ago, when it finally became tiring. Or are you completely unaware of the large amount of forum history devoted to JSWolf's crusade? |

To Ride Pegasus by Anne McCaffrey (The Talents Saga Book 1) is currently $1.99 in the US
It's been discounted previously so check before you buy. https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/to-ride-pegasus https://www.amazon.com/Ride-Pegasus-.../dp/B000FBJD3O They were people whose gifts were unique. For years - centuries - they had not even understood just what they could do with their minds. They had sometimes become astrologers, clairvoyants, or healers, but their Talents were undeveloped and untrained. Henry Darrow was the first to explore the huge wealth of psychic gifts hidden amongst mankind, and it was he who formed the first Parapsychic Centre where Talents could train and be used to revolutionise the world. But their powers set them apart, made them feared, then threatened by the un-Talented. And when dangerous freak 'wild' Talents began to wreak havoc in the outside world, it took all their combined Talented efforts to save themselves. |

X-link to the DRM-free thread for the new Humble Bundle:
Humble Book Bundle Science Fiction by Real Scientists presented by textbook publisher Springer contains hard sfnal speculative fiction titles (of the sort that Nature sometimes publishes) by (mostly non-genre-writer, though Dr. Brad Aiken does have an ISFDB entry) academic scientists, with explanatory afterwords, and also some non-fiction about the science behind science fiction.
