I looooove the first-person viewpoint in any genre. Keep that in mind whenever I make a recommendation!

I didn't realize until recently how many 1st person POV books I loved. It isn't something that I consciously seek out, but it is also not something that eliminates a book from contention for me.
I can see what you mean about getting frustrated by characters...they can bug me from any POV and turn me off of a book pretty quickly. I don't identify books by the POV, but I'll try to pick out a few that I especially enjoyed sometime soon. |

Oooh, oooh, oooh, wait!
The ultimate: "Nine Coaches Waiting" by Mary Stewart. http://www.amazon.com/Nine-Coaches-W...3284680&sr=1-1 Come to think of it, most (if not all) of her stuff is written in the 1st person. And I started reading her at my mother's urging as a teenager. It all makes sense now. Mary Stewart for the win! |

I read (and write) serious, high-minded academic crap far too much. To relax, I usually don't read anything that could be considered literature; mysteries, SF, romance, spy-action and sometimes horror, although they just keep me up at night lately. Anyway, the one thing that gets potshots routinely is the romance reading. I have a friend who writes them (and makes some money doing so) and gets ridiculous abuse. Nobody asks mystery writers "so, do you kill people to research the books, wink wink, nudge nudge?" And I shy far away from allegations of sexism in general, but I don't find it coincidental that the genre that gets the most sneering is the one that is 98% written and read by women. /end rant |

Has anyone recommended Susan Mallery? I also like Tanya Michaels. I haven't seen her published anywhere but on Harlequin, and most of her books have a humorous tone. I first discovered Susan Mallery at the same time I found Maureen Child. I tend to like Mallery more often than Child, but when I like their books, I think they have a similar style. My favorite Child book was "Some Kind of Wonderful". |

1) I think Erin's contemporaries are much more light hearted than her paranormals and are fun. Her most recent, Flat Out Sexy, was a blast (older woman, younger man - totally worked).
2) My favorite Susan Mallery is Irresistible. I liked the second book in the Bakery Sister series but I often find she's a hit or miss for me. 3) If you like contemporaries and the first person, try Kristan Higgins. I loved "Just One of the Guys" and her most recent release "Too Good to Be True" is also funny. Just don't read too many of hers right after the other. Her "voice" is too much the same from book to book. 4) Kathleen O'Reilly- Beyond Breathless and Sex, Straight Up are probably my favorites. Sex Straight Up was really interesting because it was one book in which it dealt with the 911 tragedy and the hero is a widower. There's a great line in the book in which the hero thinks that everytime he is ready to put away his past, the city (New York) won't let him because of their constant memorials and so on. O'Reilly also does a good job in exploring the struggles of a woman in defining herself while still letting go. Also re: the Harlequin downloads, they are available all year and obviously they are still getting the kinks worked out. (Loved Nine Coaches Waiting). |

They are up on Sony now if anyone is interested (I found them by sorting by price, low to high, the ad isn't up yet).
Yippee! |

The banner is on the Sony main page today. Oh well, I just downloaded them all off the Harlequin site (I'd rather have the Sony version - darn!) |
