Kindle for PC very slow to start

I primarily read my books on Kindle for PC and have over 4000. But as my book total goes up, my Kindle for PC start time gets slower and slower. I know if I clean out my kindle folder, my startup time will go back to normal.

I guess what I want to know is there a way to keep my books local and pull them into my kindle folder when needed?

My Kindle for PC is also slow to open and I only have a few books local. I believe it reads the Amazon database before it opens to see if there is any new books in the cloud. I have maybe 1500 books in the cloud mostly docs and free books. I do not believe it is the local books that are the problem. Also before opening it will check for program updates and do the updates before opening.

I've pulled all my Kindle books into Calibre and then removed them from Kindle for PC. You can tell Calibre to open your kindle books with Kindle for PC (through 'view a specific format')although I'm not sure how to make it an default.

1. Open Calibre
2. Go to Preferences
3. Click on Adding Books
4. Click on tab Automatic Adding
5. Specify your Kindle content folder **Contents of this folder will be deleted after book is added to Calibre.
6. Click Apply and close Preferences.

After purchasing a Kindle book from Amazon, open Kindle for PC and click on it to download. Then open Calibre and the title will automatically import and then delete the Kindle for PC copy.

To use Kindle for PC to read:

1. Open Calibre
2. Highlight specific book
3. Click on the small black arrow on View and select View Specific Format
4. Choose the format (AZW or MOBI)
5. In lower left corner of dialog screen, click Open With
6. Click Browse the Computer to select the Kindle for PC program
7. Apply and close
**I don't use this feature much, so don't know if you have to do this every time or just once to setup for each format.

My experience is that the start-up time of K4PC is purely dependent on the number of books in your "My Kindle Content" folder. My sole use of K4PC is to download books to add to Calibre, so I simply empty the "My Kindle Content" folder every month or so.

ADE is the same. How fast it starts also depends on the number of books in the library.
