Voyage > Aura One > Oasis > H20 > Glo > PW2 (which are the only ones I can legitimately comment on...) Screen quality and colour uniformity is a whole different ball-park, with the Oasis being one of the worst looking devices I have ver seen - period - and the Glo HD being not much better - which was very shocking to me at the time...! Thought it looked worse than my H2O and after seeing it on display in a store had eliminated any of my interest in buying it... Last edited by cerem0ny; 09-09-2016 at 09:39 PM. |

I ended up returning the H20 for a newer one that worked fine after failing to get it to work right just took about a month to do. So far things is going good expect that bright pixel with the Aura one, not sure if i want to risk getting a worse one or ignore it have not had troubles connecting it this time.

With the H2O vs the One the One has the advantage in both camps, but perhaps not but such a margin that it's going to absolutely be breathtakeningly different. I'm also in the One being sharper than the H2O camp. Even with the extra layer, the 300 DPI screen and the higher resolution make up for it. Perhaps if it was an IR screen we'd see an even bigger difference. However I have to say as someone who had previously only used IR screens, and had initially been turned off by the Ones capacitive touch screen, I have adjusted and really like having the flat surface. And not needing to worry about crumbs/dust getting in there is a load off my mind. |

It is ludicrous to think I would write here that I find the Aura One not as crisp as the H2O just in order to deter potential buyers. I find the idea insulting.
I was just stating my first impression, with both device next to each other. You may or may not have another opinion, this is what forums are for. After hours of reading, I can only reiterate that, IMO : 1. My One is not as crisp as my H2O. Not by much, but it is noticeable, at least BY ME, which is the most important, as I happen to be, oh surprise, the user of this particular unit (gosh, to think I even have to explain that,,,, ![]() 2. It is slow in turning pages 3. The lighting concept is great 4. But I see colour blurbs when the brightness is around 10% and the natural colour is on. Especially a redder cone in the bottom left. ON MY DEVICE. 5. The haptic is very good. It is a pity to use a cover. 6. Highlighting is subpar. Regarding point 1, I know I am not the only one, a reviewer wrote the same elsewhere, but I don't remember who and where as I saw that a week ago. Obviously, since I do have what is called a life, I won't spend hours looking for it. I just happen to have the same opinion. Come on, tear my post to pieces.... ![]() |

Personally whenever I find a negative review of something I seek out reviews to the reverse. I then compare the reviewers for possible bias (this is more for professional reviewers than folks posting on this forum), and filter the reviews through those biases. Of course folks here can be biased, there are Amazon fanboys/girls, and Kobo fanboys/girls, and I will be very clear here and say I do not count you in either of those camps. I snipped bits out of your post here because I either agree (highlighting for example), or don't find the drawbacks mentioned affect me (color splotches for example). |

I don't think anybody is suggesting anything. Everybody's experience is different but so far the "Aura is sharper than the H2O" camp is far greater than the opposite.

Here a pic I just made with my 2 devices side by side.
Now of course will come our next usual round of discussion, regarding the quality of the pics, the lighting, the quality of the device used for taking the pics, camera vs phone pics, the time of the day those pics were taken, the background, the ugliness of my kitchen table, and the age of the captain. Been there, done that, it's the PW/Voyage/Oasis/H2O discussion all over again.... Ok, I'm off to the beach, have fun guys. |

Yes, every iteration of the Ereader has had some pretty huge flaws since their inception ten years ago. Theres no such thing as a perfect device but yes, you are right, ereading tech particularly has had some real difficulties in getting screens of a tolerable quality. Particularly with the advent of smartphones, everybody expects impeccable displays from their devices but for whatever reasons they never seem to cut it with ereader displays and people are able to debate their perceptions here til the cows come home. And still, nobody knows why! Mystifying. But in your specific case, I would exchange your KA1 for a new one as it appears to me that so far the A1 is not plagued with the same problems every other ereader has (huge light gradients, annoying lighting, etc.). It is at least consistant with only 1 or 2 little flaws being pointed out. So go for it! I think the KA1 is about as close to perfect as an Eink device we're going to get. Im going to go pray to my Kobo shrine now. Fanboy 4 life |
