You must add the PeriodicAutoSync=false command line at the Kobo eReader.conf

Plug the Aura One on you computer, find the file Kobo eReader.conf in Kobo location file (.kobo/Kobo), open this file with a text editor and place the PeriodicAutoSync=false command anywhere (you can place this on the bottom of all commands)
Save the file and reboot your device.

Exactly. And I had more luck using Edit Pad Lite to make this change than using Windows Notepad.

And, yes, Notepad wouldn't work for me. I used Wordpad (I think).

In any event, syncing shows to be off now.

Have you tried a FULL factory reset yet?
Either something is messed up with your firmware currently or you got a device with a bad battery. I don't think playing with settings is going to help in your case.
I just checked and mine has been asleep for over 18 hours and it has lost 2%. And I haven't gotten around to bothering to add the line to the config file to keep the autosync button turned off.

Do an update to Firmware 4.0.7523 on your Kobo Aura One, maybe it could stop to sync all the time when auto sync is disabled in the options.

My device has the updated software 4.0.7523.

I can confirm that the rapid battery drain has stopped once the auto sync is turned off.

On a different note, I have used the Aura One to read while I was on the bus. I find it more natural to read than my 6" Kobo Glo.

It is too bad all the previous beta features (chess, sketch pad, unblock it sudoku) has been removed. The only beta feature available is the web browser.

^^^ This would be a great device for sudoku and crossword. I hope the devs can add those somehow.

That's nice: had my battery at 95%, looked at it 5 minutes later and it was 97%.
Correct calibration probably takes some time.

After a few hours of reading on it, my initial impressions are:
1. The screen size is perfect!
2. Library and Pocket integration is awesome.
3. Lighting is uneven.
4. Kindle Voyage screen looks lighter and sharper.
5. Also slower to response to touch.

I think I'm keeping this.

Yes, I noticed the user's guide states that you should allow the device to charge for 4 hours the first time. It only took an hour to go from 50% to 100% (at least according to what the device read initially), so my first charge was only an hour. I charged for 4 hours yesterday, just to be sure. *shrug* It seems pretty stable now, but I don't know if that helped.
