Tools hanging

I am using version 0.41 in conjunction with Mobi2mobi_Gui 016 and with ActivePerl 5.10.0 Build 1004. I have some strange behaviour which I cannot understand.
The tool, as commanded by the GUI tool worked in the previuos version (0.40 + version 0.13 of the GUI), then all of a sudden when I just tried to read a book metadata with the GUI everything hang.
As version 0.41 of the tools were available I have unpacked them and everything started to work again. Now the tools seem not to be working anymore. I thought it was the GUI, but then I have tried the tools (mobi2mobi, for example, or lit2mobi) in the DOS box, and all of them hang and seem to do nothing but waste CPU. I launched mobi2mobi, for example, and I watched through the Task Manager and I see two mobi2mobi processes, one using 50% CPU and another using 0% CPU, the output tells me the Database name, plus other parameter till the baktime, draws a line (literally) and there it hangs forever.
What can I look to check the status ? Is is ActivePerl the culprit ?

Thanks in advance for the help

I can read this book only in Mobipocket Reader - but without any registrations, PID etc.

When I've used mobiperl I got something like this:

I can't use kindlefix or mobidedrm because I don't know the PID I should use. Generated from my PalmTX or Mobipocket reader on my laptop didn't work.

What can I do in this case?

See the Visual Kindle Guide. It walks you through getting a book encrypted with your Kindle's PID and then "fixing" it. See the Visual Kindle Guide in the Wiki.

For dedrm you would use whatever PID you have registered at whatever store you are buying from.

This is a "content encrypted" ebook. In other words, it has encryption but only using the generic MOBI key (not a PID-specific key). This means that can be read by any MobiPocket Reader software, on any device, but not by any non-MobiPocket software. There is a version of mobidedrm.py that strips content encryption, see Mobipocket Decoder Tool #176.

Does it happen on all books? It seems very strange that it just stopped working. Maybe you have installed another version of the Palm modules?

What it does after drawing the line is to check all records and see if it is an image or not. It seems impossible to get an infinite loop there so I really do not see how it can hang.

If you can run the ActivePerl version it is very easy to enable the debug print outs in mobi2mobi to see were it hangs.

Mobi also seems to have another key method that uses your login id and password from the site you bought the eBook from. I have encountered a few of those lately.

I shall try. Maybe the palm modules you mention could be the right way. I'll let you know.

Edited
Verified. I have p5-Palm site 1.009. Is it the right version ?

This is very, very funny. And misterious.
I have tried uninstalled and re-installed ActivePerl.
From my user, same behaviour, it hangs.
Just for a trial I have used the Administrator account. It works !! What could it be that bloks normal users ? I have tried to convert Ivanhoe, from Fictionwise, from lit to mobi.
The attached file is what I got, and it did the job of converting the file.
In my user it stopped right at the end, where I put the line., where it tried to read the cover image.

If it works running as administrator there are probably some issues with permissions on files. Maybe if you run once as administrator a files is saved with a administrator properties and your user might not be able to read or write to that file.

I really do not use Windows and I have no easy access to a Windows computer so I have no experience with these kind of problems.

Or maybe some disk is full? Swap disk?

I shall investigate. Out of the blue I do not know what the reason is, as I have the administrator privileges anyway, in my user. I must understand what the difference between a user and the administrator account. I rarely use the account as I can install applications and do administrative tasks from my account. Beats me, for the time being.

Reading this thread, I just realized that mobi2mobi does the same thing on one of my three Windows XP machines, but not on the other two.
If you ever figure out what is causing it, please let me know.

(Its driving me nuts)

I was able to get mobiperl to run (haven't verified whether it works) on Ubuntu intrepid by mostly folloiwng the debian information, adding two more packages, and by making a small change to the mobi pm.

1. Install the packages that are on the debian packages list.
2. Install libimage-info-perl and libimage-size-perl
3. Edit MobiPerl/Util.pm so that "use Image::BMP" reads as "use Image::Info::BMP"

You know, it's just working again, now and does everything beautifully as before. I'm sure I haven't done anything to my PC. It' s really weird.
