Yes, it's a bug in the firmware. The hours read is updated, the stats tile is displayed, but the finished book event is not recorded. Kobo know about it, but, as with all bugs, I recommend reporting it to them yourself so that they know you consider it an important problem.

Just unboxed mine! SO EXCITED.

Initial thoughts- It's VERY lightweight. The backing material is great. That's it because the battery is too low to let it upgrade over wifi

in the bus

Just back after reading one handed on the One (without cover), standing up in a full bus, gripping a pole with the other, and it worked fine.

NB: and I have small very arthritic hands.

Arrived this morning and unboxed. Screen light gradient is awful. Really dark at the top of the screen and really bright at the bottom. Almost worse than the Kindle Voyage and Oasis. Has uniform screen lighting become an impossibility for eink ereaders now? My Kobo H2O has pretty even lighting. Very disappointed that this now seems the norm.

Perhaps it's the flush, glass screen. Seems to be what they all have in common. Maybe it's not just an Amazon thing after all. Guess we'll find out soon enough, as other reports roll in.

it's a shame because otherwise the device is beyond superb. reading it in natural light with the light off, it is, for me, the perfect shape and size and weight. the screen sharpness is fantastic. i would have liked it a little snappier, especially when typing, but it feels great and i love Kobo's ability to add fonts and the ease of side-loading my own documents. It is also the best looking ereader I think I've ever seen. except for the light gradient I'd give it a perfect 10. with the light gradient, i'd go 9.5. i returned kindles because of light gradients, but i'm going to weather this and hope i stop noticing, that's how fantastic i think the device is otherwise.

First impressions:
Very thin, too big to hold safely or comfortably with one hand for a long time. Capacitive screen as responsive (or unresponsive) as the H2O screen. With Natural Light at zero, it's whiter than the H2O. Natural Light can give it a softer hue, which is nice at all times. 10% brightness on the H2O is way darker than 10% on the One. Light is very evenly spread across the screen.
I find the automatic brightness rather fickle, jumping from one setting to another when moving the device a little. Also, way too bright. The help-text suggests some sort of learning ability, but I doubt that. A patch that works like Light Flow on an Android device would be nice.
The bigger screen is the asset I bought this one for and it is worth it. Flush screen is very nice (but I know that's a question under debate).
Automatic sync keeps being turned on again, even after a full shutdown. Very annoying.
Can't say anything about battery life yet.

I got my Aura One at the Indigo Bookstore Downtown Toronto.

The clerk told me the shipment just came in just a few hours ago.

Sadly, there are no Aura One sleep covers in stock.

Once I get home to open it, I may post some pictures later.

My first impression:

Due to its weight, easy to hold with one hand for a longer period of time.
It's a lot darker than my H2O. I have that one set at 7% and to get the same darkness on the One I've to put it to 2%. The H2O looks more yellow (with the natural light turned off on the One) Again, with 7% on the H2O en 2% on the One.
Light looks even.
Natural light, I'll have to play with tonight.

For those with both the H20 and the One, is the contrast and sharpness similar? Also, the evenness of the lighting. I really love the bigger screen of the One, but I'm so happy with the perfect (to my eyes) screen on my H20 that I'm a little concerned a One screen might disappoint. For those with both, I'm curious how happy you are with the screen compared to your H20? (Leaving size out of the equation.)

.
By darker do you mean the background? I'm not sure I understand. You're saying the one is darker, but at 2% light, the background is the same as the H2O at 7%?

It's a shaper screen. It's a lovely screen. I don't find the lighting as even. I think the lighting on the H2O is perfectly even in tone and no dark spots. At least not on mine. There's a definite grading of the light/color on the One, and dark edges. Reading in the daylight, the One wins hands down for me. I do all my reading in the dark, so I'm not sure. I like the contract and sharpness of the One more, I like the evenness of the lighting of the H2O more.

I think he means the opposite. If I have the One and H2O at the same lightness percentage, the One is much, much brighter. If I'm looking for a darker screen to read in a darker room, I need to lower the One's light a great deal more than the H2O.
