I just tested this on my Glo HD, and it is happening there. On my Glo, which is running a late beta, it isn't. With that, when I uncheck the option, it asks me if I really want to. The 4.0.7523, it doesn't. So, a bug in the firmware. You should report this to Kobo so they know it is a problem and that you think it is important.

Quality of the eInk Carta Aura One screen less than the H2O?
See comments in french at http://aldus2006.typepad.fr/mon_webl...t-complet.html Could someone compare the screens of One and H2O? Thanks |

That means that default value for "PeriodicAutoSync" is "true". You can manually add "PeriodicAutoSync=false". A quick test here, and when I go to the sync setting page, the option is not set. This should prevent the automatic sync.

That works. Thank you very much. I've signaled the problem on the French Kobo site. I'll see whether this impacts the leaking in Sleep mode.

Fortunately, when the light is on the One seems to do fine, edged out in contrast only by the Voyage. I wish the German side would test around 50% rather than max light. |

Since I got my One on 31 August, I have tried every way I knew to solve the battery problems:
* did two full discharges/recharge to calibrate the battery: some improvement (drop 100% to some 70% in sleep mode after 10 hours instead of 4 after 1st cycle), but still abysmal * upgraded the F/w: no improvement for the battery * disconnected/reconnected to reset it: no improvement * added PeriodicAutoSync=false to the .conf file: radical improvement in sleep mode (it dropped 1% after many hours), but still big problems when reading, specially at night. How it went since I modified the .conf file yesterday afternoon: * reading in daylight with light at 60%: 100% to 90% in 70' - seems high, but not outrageous * reading at night with light at 30%, comfort light on automatic: 82% to 65% in one hour * reading at night with comfort light on manual: 63% to 58% the first hour, 42% the next hour * I decided to inhibit the automatic light turn off in the sun just in case, lowered the light to 20%, the comfort light from some 90% to some 80%: the battery dropped from 42% to 37% in another hour reading. I'll see how it goes in the next 24 hours, but I won't have so much time to test/read, and I don't know what to do since I'm not sure whether it is a software or a battery problem really. It could be a combination of the two. One French person said here they had done an exchange at the Fnac in Paris and it hadn't changed anything. I also feel that the new light/comfort light combi needs serious tuning. It is a pity, because it is a great improvement for night reading. Any suggestion anyone? Some screenshots found on the web:

As far as I can see, the background is clearly less white on the 7,8'' device and my overall impression of the screen is a disappointment (compared to the two-years-old H2O). I also much prefer the IR technology, whether for turning pages or calling small notes, even with kepubs, regret Kobo's choice for the One on this, but know that many prefer capacitive. In my eyes, any reader is better with at least some light on, and contrary to many in this forum, and depending on the device, I do often read at 100%. Less often with the One since it is quite good at lower levels (say above 50%), better than my H2O or Glo HD. So I do prefer the One in daylight too. But at night there is no comparison, it is so much better. The problem is that this new technology definitely needs adjusting (I think at least part of my battery problems is due to this - and I had to modify the configuration file to stop the battery seriously bleeding in sleep mode). EDIT: I would prefer the One even with the same screen as my Glo HD (which I prefer to the H2O for sharpness - plus color in daylight) because of the increased real estate. It is much more pleasant to read anything with the character size I prefer (old, problem eyes), with decent margins and header / footer, and very much better for reading poetry or non-fiction (those tables and graphs). It also makes for bigger tiles on the home screen and books / collections lists, which means readable for me (see photos 4 and 5 in my post #181 in this thread). Even if it is bigger, I can read it one handed much more comfortably than the H2O even if the weight is only 3g less - a question of balance and texture possibly Last edited by anacreon; 09-06-2016 at 08:12 AM. |

I don't understand Kobo's choices: flush bezel (extra-layer) and capacitive touchscreen (second extra-layer). Even on youtube comparison, it's so clear that the background is more greyish than other devices. This test as example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mIGirPScjU Quote:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=275804 On the half-capacity battery of the Aura One, battery shouldn't reach 9 hours. It's a poorer performance than LCD tablet. I would be very anxious if my e-ink device would lose more than 10%/hour ![]() |

Sorry for the double post, but I didn't the option to delete the post in the "Bugs" thread.
----- For those few who already got the Aura One, is it just me, or the thing doesn't keep track of finished books in the stats? Reading hours are OK, but no matter what I do, the number of finished books doesn't change from the original 0. |

I always have the backlight on on my H2O, usually at 7%. Only when I'm in a lit room (not well-lit, not dark) will I turn up the light. If I read outside, I'll turn up the brightness if I'm a very shadowy place. But normal shade, I'll keep it at 7%.
