So first consider something local first. Search the JB thread for posts by 'geekmaster' who lists Windows utilities. What is IDM? Well, whatever it is, you most likely have corrupted downloads. Check the md5sum of the file you are using before we go any further with the troubleshooting. |

Also my only intention to jailbreak is to use UBUNTU fonts... Seriously, I cant believe how they managed to create such beautiful set of fonts!!(Its just me, or someone agrees with me on this??) So if there's a way out of Jailbreak, I am ready to give it a shot, if i can use Ubuntu fonts.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM scroll down and read the Windows section. For Linux 'md5sum filename' prints the md5 if it is installed.

"why is image corrupted everytime?" (Double) gzip-ed file because of issues with a proxy or multiple parallel download threads which do for random reasons not lead to the expected file.
Rename the broken DL (if you still have it) to x.gz and try to extract it with gzip. If this works re-calculate the md5. |

DO NOT attempt to decompress it. If you must see the contents, use KindleTool. Keep in mind, it is a signed file, once you take it apart, you can not put it together again. So only do that to a spare copy of the file. If using an OS that auto opens "known" files - change your configuration to NOT open "known" files. Nowhere in the directions do I tell people to make any kind of change to the update_*.bin file. Use it as is, if it passes the md5 validation. Once you get rid of this serious case of PEBCAK, it will all work as documented. |

Your problem is IDM - stop using it.
It requires the servers to support "resume" (interrupted downloads) and these servers do not all support "resume" and/or "multipart" downloads. Quote:

Renaming a file to .gz and running gzip -d ... would simply fail or unzip it. If the md5 is still wrong afterwards one will likely delete it. It helped my quite a few times as double gzip compression during DL using random proxy servers may happen.

Like you said Sir. Ditched IDM...
Logged into UBUNTU, used wget to download the file... Never ever thought it was due to the download manager which is revered like god.exe in Windows world... PS: Although I must admit that its a damn old IDM version.. They always asks me to update and I skip... also I have lately experienced bad iso of ubuntu being downloaded. Which i thought was the problem from "their" end... now i understand the drawbacks of the speedy looking IDM.. Last edited by symphonybug; 09-03-2016 at 11:09 AM. |

Dear... I kind of bumped into another problem. If I have to create another thread for it please tell me so. I am sorry, dont have a clear cut perception of forum etiquette, although i read a couple of para...
The problem is, right after I downgraded, I flashed the kindle with jailbreak.bin file offered in the mobiread post regarding jailbreaking. It went fine, but i couldnt see ***JAILBREAK*** appearing anywhere. I followed the thread sacredly and didnt rush through any step. Then I tried installing KUAL package. I put the required something2.azw in Document folder. But when I tried opening it it said something like "Cant open it because its not signed." Then I thought may be the jailbreak thing didnt happen and i repeated it. This time, while installing it ended up with failure message quoting some 007 error code. I didnt stop. I reset the device and ended up with fresh 5.8.2 kindle. And repeated the cycle.. i.e. downgraded firmware and tried jailbreaking again... and stuck at the same step of jailbreaking with same error code 007... could you please help me.
