True, but, I'm trying to resist. I don't need it and I'm not sure I'd actually use it. I have both the Glo HD and Aura H2O and find the smaller size better for my uses.

But, I do want to get my hands on one and have a look at it. Hopefully one of the JB HiFi shops I can get to easily will have them on display. Of course, I'll have to leave my credit card at home when I go to look at it.

I know, but sadly it's the fact for some that they can't just buy it. Not sure if I could have followed my own advice, though

But if I had to wait, I'd have waited till there were some user reviews from mobileread. All others don't count in my eyes, most of the time people only put reviews up either when it's perfect (which I don't believe) or when it sucks completely (which I don't believe either).

MR reviews are the only really qualified ones I find. They come from people who know about e-reading and e-readers, who have been through different models, and who are reading much, much more than the majority.

I wanted to wait for these reviews too but ended up pre-ordering as soon as I could because this device seems scrumptious (if you can say so about an e-reader ).

Of course now the wait is killing me.

In the review pictures I've seen, there appears to be distinct shadowing in the lighting at the sides of the screen. A number of people at MR seem to be extremely sensitive to unevenness in lighting, so it'll be interesting to see how the lighting is perceived in real-world usage.

There is, on the right-hand side and also shadow cones at the bottom, but very faint, and I completely forget them when using it.

It probably wouldn't bother me either, but I'm sure there are people who would be extremely bothered by it. It'll be interesting to read the real-world reviews as people start to get their hands on the device.

I think Kobo users tend to be slightly more forgiving than Kindle users, but generally speaking, the evenness of the light/screen tends to be better on Kobo's anyway. In terms of the colour of the light, I've always found Kobo's light to be more harsh/blue, with the exception of the H2O which is just lovely, but never see many people complain about it.

Incidentally, I've no interest in such a large screen ereader, but I'm more excited about getting to see an Aura One in the flesh than I was with the Kindle Oasis. It looks very promising in the pics I've seen so far.

No I'm not more forgiving. My Glo HD has clean warm even lighting. My paperwhite has uneven lighting. I'm very picky when it comes to screens. I've seen the newer Kindles and could never read on them.

Yes, that's the only option, but I can tell you from personal experience that it doesn't take anything like 2 months to receive items from Canada by ordinary post; it normally arrives in less than 4 weeks.
Several other US posters on here have mentioned that Chapters' estimates in this respect are ridiculously conservative.
I expect to receive it probably before it's available in Oz; and a b sight cheaper.

Apologies Blossom, I should have made it clear that I was just talking in very general terms about Kobo users being a little more forgiving IMHO. I know there are some people who weren't happy with their Kindle's and have switched to a Kobo and been far happier with the lighting/screen on their Kobo - the original Aura apart, its an area where Kobo do far better than just about anyone.

The view count for the Kobo forum is close to and/or exceeding the Kindle's. I don't recall seeing the Kobo's count above 50% of the Kindle's in the past.

Hi everybody,

I received my Kobo Aura One yesterday (preordered in France, thanks to Fnac.com), and I already like it, more than the Oasis returned for refund few days ago.
So far, even if the screen is better than my previous Oasis, I'm not entirely satisfied : I'm among those which are picky about screen uniformity.
Mine is a little creamy on the top side (shadowing in the bottom side doesn't disturb me as much), am I the only one to notice that problem when the frontlight is on ?

Maybe just the buzz of a new ereader being released? But also a sign that Kobo are going places. They are doing different things to Amazon and it appears to be working for them.

Sure, but I don't remember so much "buzz" for any of their earlier models.
