You're right - although as a result of a lot less books on the device, I spend a lot less time browsing the contents. That's probably what I was thinking when I wrote my remark.

I tried a non-official, knock off cover for my Aura HD and it was AWFUL! I know some here liked the knock off, I bought it from an eBay link posted here in fact, but it just ruined the experience of using my device. 1) Protruding magnet that fell under my thumb when holding the reader. PAINFUL! (Kobo cover has flush magnet.) 2) Metal edge on the cover that made a LOUD obnoxious click when closing the cover. (No exposed metal on Kobo cover, just leather on the outside, microfiber on the inside. There's a click, but so much softer sounding.) 3) Magnet too strong! Made it much harder to easily open the reader. (Kobo cover magnet is just right, keeps it closed, but you don't have to pry it open.) 4) Removal of the knock-off was so difficult I thought I was going to damage the e-reader! (Kobo cover, while not exactly easy to remove, never made me fear for my reader's life.) Upshot, though the non-official cover cost a 5th of the price of the expensive Kobo leather sleepcover, it was wasted money, because it was so bad I threw it out. YMMV. Anyway, 3 years later, Kobo cover has provided a wonderful experience the whole time and still looks brand new unless you look very, very closely at it. I consider that $50 well spent. That said, new reader, new cover, perhaps the official cover would not be to my taste this time. But I'm certainly willing to give it a try based on past experience. ) ever come up to the standard of the official covers. I've learnt that the hard way.

I will see what people think of the official cover, as I'm not pre-ordering, but my inclination would be to buy it. FWIW, Oberon leather covers are wonderful, and protective, but do add a lot of weight. I used one on my original Nook and that *did* exceed the standard of the official Nook cover, by far. But the price also exceeded that of the official Nook cover, i.e. double . ;-) And I've heard good things about Noreve leather covers for devices as well, but same deal, more expensive than official covers, not less. I've had good experiences with unofficial covers. I got M-Edge covers for my Sonys, I'm using an easel case for my H2O that I like a lot. YMMV, of course. |

The colour cover thumbnails will be from sideloaded books, the covers that are downloaded from the Kobo cloud are automatically reduced to greyscale before being sent to a greyscale device, which saves some space. The same automatic reduction to greyscale can be done by Calibre for sideloaded books by selecting the appropriate option in the KoboTouch driver.

H20 estimate is 2 months, (30 minutes / day) with light on, wifi off. From your test: light at 50%: 35,9 hours If the Estimated battery life of the One is half of the H20, that places it squarely in the < 20 hours expected reading time.
