Thanks.

No wonder my Voyage needs charging more often than my Kobos, despite having a lot less books on it.

b, egads! Finally, a negative about Aura One.

I don't regret ordering one; however, the 1200 mAh battery is a disappointment.

They must have run out of space on the device.

The power problem concerns to smartphones or tablets rather then E-Ink readers - you don't need to charge it everyday because I doubt if anyone reads as long as use their mobile phone (with the same intensity) per day.
So I guess the battery is not the thing you have to emphasize (at least for such devices).

Oh, kept reading and further on he says other readers have 1500 mAh. Not good, Kobo.
I'm guessing weight was a concern? You're not going to get a ereader that's much bigger than the H2O but still retain the same weight for nothing. I've yet to be away from a power outlet for longer than 2-3 weeks so I'm more than willing to accept that tradeoff. We're not talking about smartphones here.

Likely to be about the same. The original Aura had eMMC and it was not noticably faster or slower than other models with internal micro-SD cards.

The ones I have seen came with Sandisk class 2 or 4 cards.

The speed of eMMC chips and micro-SD cards depends hugely on what you are using them for, so unless the test was comparing ereaders it is probably irrelevent to how they will perform in an ereader.

The speed of micro-SD cards also varies hugely between different manufacturers and even between individual cards produced by the same manufacturer, some class 2 cards are much faster than some class 10 cards for small block operations, it is only when dealing with huge blocks that the class 10 cards are likely to be faster, such as when transferring hundreds of books at once from PC to ereader. In normal use the best class 2 or 4 cards are likely to be as fast or faster than the best class 10 cards.

I do use my ereader way longer and with more intensity than I use my phone... My phone can do 2 days without charging, my ereader 2 weeks. (H2O) These numbers are from our vacation (car + tent), where I had to charge my phone every day while on the road (a bit more use than standard as I sometimes used it to make pictures) while I used my ereader every single minute we were sitting still (reading in the morning during breakfast, reading in the morning while packing, reading in the evening after putting the tent up, reading in the evening during dinner and reading in the evening before sleeping). With the added drain of using a black background during the bedtime reading, which takes more energy to refresh.

For me, the lower capacity of the battery on the One doesn't really matter, as I don't intend to take it with me on extended trips without any power options (and in that case, I'd take a solar charger with me anyway).

The same for me. However there are people who believe that's the real problem.

For example (by the way you can find in this review all subjective negatives about One):
Quote:
Battery life is said to be around 15 hours, not great by E Ink standards. I’m not so sure of that even if you crank up the front light. Go to the power options and change the cut-off times if this bothers you. It might help.
And honestly 15 hrs is very small

On the other hand, how often do you read 15 hours in one stretch? I sadly don't have the time for that

15 hours is a wrong number for 30 days × 30 minutes.
It's probably correct when you read 15 hours in one month. But if yo read much more—let's say 15 hours in a day—you'll get more than the double of it.

See my own test:

I can sort of understand this line of thinking because obviously more is better but even if you read for 3 hours a day that would still be almost one week before needing to charge. Would you rather the device had a battery length longer than you realistically need or would you rather have a device that is too heavy to hold comfortably for any period of time? Because I'm sure Kobo could make a brick that would only require charging once a year but you would have to go to the gym 3 times a week in order to be able to lift it!

Why would the number of books make a difference? They're just stored bits on the internal flash storage, nothing should be accessing them unless you open the book.
