Maybe someone informed her that the Kindle DX had a 9.7" screen.

Some of those pix make it look like there's a gap intentionally created between the folded-back cover and the back of the device/fitted cover, along the top. But it's really hard to tell for sure. (And is it enough to slip your finger into and press the button thru the custom hole in the fitted back part of the cover?) They did make a point of leaving open access to the USB port at the bottom, so maybe there's a design feature for accessing the back button, too.

One of the other things I keep noticing in those pix is that the angled hinge part of the cover (that becomes the fold-out stand) can obviously swing either way, which makes me think it would be too floppy and/or wear out at the fold. But again, let's hope we can trust the design and materials are compensating for such issues (at that price - hopefully!).

I do wish someone would review the cover, before it's time to make the quick decision at pre-order time!
Yes to all that! I notice with the Oasis they've gone back to the power button on the top, so perhaps Amazon realized the back button could be a problem for some. The Voyage case has a molded part over the button on the back, but the front cover holds quite firmly when folded back for an easel and this makes it a chore to get to the button. It works as an easel horizontally as well as vertically because both sides fold and it it pretty sturdy. I can't see the kobo case holding horizontally at all, but that's okay, I use a pillow. It's the fact that it covers the button that matters. Your observation that there may be a space is interesting, but how to find out before tomorrow?

Because of the blue light block I was ready to pre-order, but then I started thinking about that button and how long it took me to figure out how to get around the problem with the Voyage, plus having to order from Canada and the trouble it would be to return for any reason.... If it weren't so expensive it wouldn't be as hard to decide.

It should. I have cases with that design for my Kindle Fires, and they work very well vertically or horizontally. Your button concern, however, is likely to remain an issue.

Though I don't even know if Kobos will display horizontally....despite having owned many for years!

______

Just had a chat with kobo, It took a long time to get the answer.

jscris: I see that the power button is on the back of the Aura One. The case appears to cover it when folded as an easel. If the unit goes to sleep, how does one access the power button without picking up the unit and unfolding the front cover? Is there some way to wake the reader other than accessing the power button? ..........

Onam: I am so sorry you have to unfold the cover and turn on or off. Please be advised that we're passing this matter on to our development team and will work to fix this for a future release.

Wow, I'm surprised you were able to get someone to answer the question; thanks! Perhaps an after-market case-maker will come up with a better design sooner (than Kobo, whom I doubt will come out with a 2nd type of case for a single model of ereader anytime soon). Sad that they didn't address that issue with this expen$ive cover!!

Yes, it is sad. I may still order the reader for the blue light filter because I read so much at night and do have problems sleeping. At least I know the button problem in advance. The same fix I used with the Voyage might work. I, too, doubt they'll make a different cover for that model but they may not make that same mistake with the next model.

Button covered. At least it looks that way in the picture (the Aura One Kobo cover).
I do have a sleep cover on my Voyage so nearly all the time I just open the cover and read. When I stop I close the cover. So the times that I actually use the power button are very rare. It is true that when I do have the cover open and want to wake it up I have to move the cover out of the way but most of the time I just close the cover and open it again.

Really though, the real answer is that none of this matters. I suspect that when you're using the device you won't even think about any of this. It's when considering it in the abstract, while discussing in a forum, that this kind of stuff becomes important.

I just re-read what I typed and I can't think of a way to change it to avoid the danger that it might sound snarky. It wasn't meant that way and I hope you'll believe me.

No offense taken. I understand that you don't read like I do. If I hadn't already had so much trouble when I got the Voyage, it wouldn't have occurred to me to ask about the Aura One. I prop the reader on its side and I'm lying on my side in bed. The cover is folded back. I fall asleep reading. When I wake up a while later, I want to read some more. The reader is in front of me and all I should have to do is press the button (like the top button on the kobo) and it turns on and I read some more. Yes, I should just go back to sleep but often I can't. This is the way I do most of my reading. It does matter to me that I would have to do all this extra fumbling around in the dark with the cover to get the reader back on. I've solved it with the Voyage by gluing something on the back cover, but it's not something that should have to be done. I notice they changed the button to the top on the Oasis. I appreciate the thoughts, but I've always got the reader propped, whether on my desk or on a pillow in bed and I very often have to restart it. I'm probably going to get the Aura One and hope for a different cover from a third party. I've never used an e-reader or tablet without a cover.

If you have a magnetic cover then you should almost never have to touch the power button. I know that I don't on my H2O and Paperwhite.

I read in bed a lot but I always just hold on the the ereader while I read. The only time I prop it up to read is when I'm brushing my teeth.

I worry about falling asleep while reading for fear of damaging the device so I don't let that happen.

When I use the Paperwhite without the cover, which I've often done for extended periods, I have to fumble to turn it on and off. I never can find the button without feeling around the bottom for it. It is midly irritating but not so much that I really care. It's just one of those things I have to deal with.

I'm not sure why anyone would buy the official Kobo cover anyways. I believe the price in Canada for the cover is $50. That is just absolutely ridiculous. When I bought my original Aura the official cover came included and it was just terrible. I'm sure the free market will come up with superior and cheaper covers.

I just pre-ordered the Kobo Aura One. I've been reading everything I can and debating whether I should wait a month and let any bugs get worked out, real life user reviews and or promotional discounts.

But I am weak. I've been waiting for Kobo to put out a reader w/Overdrive integrated since the news of their purchase of OD. Besides, it's for my birthday!
