Search changes?

Hi,

Has something changed with the search?

I usually search for something weird (e.g. nnnnnnnnn) so that no books will be selected and I can use FanFicFare to download a story (if a book is highlighted, FFF tries to update that book, rather than allow me to paste in a URL).

But now, when I search for anything, everything is returned but the correct title is highlighted (it took me a while to notice this). Which is okay, except for when I search for nonsense and everything is returned.

Or, conversely, is there an easy way to have NO books selected (which is what I require with FFF)?

Edited: I've just noticed that when I search for nonsense, everything is returned, BUT nothing is selected (so that's okay for my purposes). Seems a little counterintuitive though (but I'm no UX expert!).

@skb: Instead of trying to deselect the current books, if you click on the arrow that is part of the button (I can't describe it better as I don't know exactly what it looks like on a Mac), then you can select the "Add New from URL(S)" option. This displays the dialog that you can enter the URLs in and ignores any selected books.

If you still want to press the button, you could ask for an enhancement to FFF to set the action when pressing the button. Allowing it to be "always add" instead of the current behaviour is what you probably want.

Even with the search returned to how you like it, as per eschwartz's post, just click on the empty background beside an existing book and this will remove any selection, allowing you to use the Add new instead of update.

OR

You can also go in Config, on the Basic tab, right hand side, uncheck the option "Default to Update when books selected. Now, even if a book is selected, you add from new.

MM's already pointed out the option to change main FFF button behavior., but here are a couple other ideas:

You can click one book, then Ctrl-click it to unselect and then have none selected.
I have the 0 keyboard key mapped to 'Add new from URLs' and the 1 key mapped to 'Update Existing', etc. See attached.
Also, I have <spacebar> mapped to my preferred View Manager(PI) view, that also clears selected.
