Catseye by Andre Norton is $1.99 in the US as Open Roads daily deal however with the current unlimited kobo coupon 50READ you can get it for $1
https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/catseye-1 The classic far-future novel about the telepathic bond of friendship between human and animal from the grande dame of science fiction and fantasy. Exiled after his home planet was turned into a military outpost following an interstellar war, Troy Horan is relocated to the planet of Korwar. Under the watchful eye of the police state, he lives in the slums in a restricted area for sub-citizens. He works as a day laborer in an interplanetary pet shop and has no idea why the Terran animals have been imported to Korwar—or why he has the ability to silently communicate with them, especially the kinkajou. But a murder forces him to flee with his animal friends into the Wild, where mysterious, sealed ruins conceal Korwar’s most fiercely guarded secret. With no one he can trust and an entire government under siege, Troy leads his extraordinary band of warriors in a final bid for freedom none of them may survive. Sadly, this does sound like the science of Michael Chrichton. A world where there are no science ethics, peer reviews or FDA trials. I love me a new post-apocalyptic thriller as much as the next geek, but come on. Crichton himself beat this trope to death; couldn't we have let it end when he did? When will we the readers say we've had enough? |

The Organ Scrubber, the first book in the Defragmenting Daniel trilogy by Jason Werbeloff is free until tomorrow. Probably only at Amazon, since he's in Amazon Unlimited. I have read this book (I received a free pre-release copy in exchange for an honest reveiw) and just loved it! I'm really looking forward to the rest of the trilogy. If you want to read my full review the Goodreads version is here.

I got an email from the author that all five of the titles in Robert Kroese's Mercury series are on sale for today (Aug 29) only at $1.99 at Kindle US. Kroese is one of the more vocal (I think) self-publishers, however, I've read and enjoyed the first three titles in this series, and the premise (not a spoiler since it's in the blurb for the first one) - an End Times reporter who, after years of reporting on "failed" reports of the End Times, actually runs into the real thing - is pretty funny, IMO at least. I've picked up the two I didn't have yet.
link for all five (and also a couple of novellas): https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?se...ry&price=0-200 Last edited by sufue; 08-29-2016 at 01:29 PM. |

Path of Fate by Diana Pharaoh Francis (The Path Trilogy Book 1) is one of Open Roads daily deals $1.99 in the US but if you use the current kobocode 50READ it is 99c. Previously published by Roc
https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/path-of-fate-2 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G4MZ714 SYNOPSIS Unlikely heroine Reisil and her goshawk companion face their unexpected destiny in this captivating first novel of an epic fantasy trilogy. Orphaned by her mother and passed from family to family in the village of Kallas in the land of Kodu Riik, Reisil feels as if she will never truly belong. But her training as a tark, or healer, offers her the promise of acceptance by the townsfolk, and as her talents emerge, it appears she will finally be able to hold her head high. But fate has another path in store: A goshawk named Saljane swoops into her life, and Reisil discovers that she is able to communicate telepathically with the animal. This is an undeniable sign that Reisil has been chosen by Lady Amiya, the goddess of Kodu Riik, to become an ahalad-kaaslane—a guardian of the land who must live a life of constant travel and forgo the very bonds of family and community the girl healer so desires. Though the role of ahalad-kaaslane is a noble one, Reisil cannot bear the thought of losing the ties with society she has worked so hard to form. She rejects the Lady’s appointment, ignoring the goshawk no matter how persistently it follows her. But when a kidnapping plot breaks a treaty with the neighboring country of Patverseme, Reisil realizes the sentient bird of prey is the only creature capable of tracking the traitors down and saving Kodu Riik from the evils of war. Reluctantly, Reisil accepts her destiny as an ahalad-kaaslane, and embarks on a dangerous pursuit of the kidnappers—and a perilous trek of self-discovery—in order to save two kingdoms. |

Vision In Silver, Book #3 in Anne Bishop's The Others series, is $1.99. This is the Amazon link but it's a publisher deal so it should be the same price everywhere.
