I did exactly that. So from the computer I drop the .bin in the root. As soon as I eject the Oasis a popup appears on the Kindle saying it is not a valid update file. At that point it has already deleted the .bin so I don't even have a chance to Update. When I reconnect to the computer the hotfix .bin is gone.
Right now I'm sitting with 5.7.4 .bin in the root with the Oasis naked. It didn't complain about that file. Last edited by picree; 08-26-2016 at 07:01 PM. |

That 5.8.2 has a lot of challenges in it for our after-market add-ins.
One of the reasons I posted links to both 5.8.1 and 5.8.2 - I suspected a good chance we would need more time to learn about 5.8.2 There have been a number of minor behavior changes reported. Also posted is the most recent of the 5.7 firmware series. I suggest you update from factory_5.7.4 to customer_5.7.4 and see if it suits your needs. |

I didn't check to see if it updated on it's own (sorry). I assumed it was still on 5.8.2. So, I recopied 5.7.4 to the Oasis and quickly ran the update (which did). Do you suppose 5.7.4 ran on it's own or did 5.8.2 delete that .bin as well? |

The closest thing reported was by someone that went to lunch in the midst of jail breaking the Kindle. You mentioned "re-register"ing the Kindle. Did you un-register it at some time in the past? Or where you just describing the result of the 'reset' (which wipes the local copy of the registration but does not change anything in Amazon's database - and Amazon's database always wins once you connect to the Internet). The reason I am asking for clarification is that some people have reported that UYK is not reachable unless the Kindle was registered (for some firmware versions only). To 'fix' that situation, I have a JB file that includes a fake registration for the purpose of doing the entire JB procedure without connecting to the Internet. I would really like more information on the problem I am trying to fix. Last edited by knc1; 08-26-2016 at 07:47 PM. |

Remember, I checked with the Kindle in Airplane mode and registered and UYK was available...then later in the same mode it wasn't available. But even then it was registered. I really think my whole issue was simply that I never restarted the Oasis without the cover and USB cable (naked). All other jailbreaks and KUAL and extensions and SSH worked fine up to that point on 5.8.2. Last edited by picree; 08-26-2016 at 08:04 PM. |

In the case you describe, you only needed to wait for the Kindle to 'call home' - it would have corrected the local registration file.
Using the 'registration' procedure on the Amazon site only sped up the process. |

I possibly completely forgot to update the hotfix for FW 5.8.2, nothing to worry about there ;D. I'll do that soon-ish (running on an MCE-tripped session right now, need to reboot and tweak BIOS before I get a kernel panic).
As for the cover thing, I half-expected it, the goal was to make 100% sure *something* would trip the CRP. Granted, as you've experience, it's that's a bit much, but I'll need someone with SSH access to try to narrow it down to 'just' the USB port ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 08-27-2016 at 01:23 PM. |

Thanks for the comments and clarifications. I have SSH access and can probably search, copy, and send you files or logs and do some rudimentary poking around but, beyond that I'm not a programmer so the necessary hand-holding might not be worth the effort. In any case, if I can help in a small way please let me know. The KOA is currently on 5.7.4.

@picree: It's basically a couple of commands to run and check whether they return 0 or 1 with different combinations of stuff plugged-in, so I can write something up if you feel up to it, it should be pretty trivial

Sure. Just let me know. I can do that.
I'm on a Mac and connect via Terminal. Curt Last edited by picree; 08-29-2016 at 12:16 PM. |

Did you try this:
"if one does accidentally boot into diags mode, what is the easiest way to get out of it? Good question ! 1. Tap on "S) Device settings" 2. Tap on "X) Exit" 3. Tap on "D) Exit, Reboot or Disable diags" 4. Tap on "D) Disable diagnostics" 5. Tap on "Q) To continue"" |

But the current CRP detects the cover being connected to the Kindle the same as the USB cable being connected and returns to the Diags system when re-booted. On an Oasis, the external battery (in the cover) AND the USB cable must be disconnected. |
