How do you Stop PDF's from Conversion on Import

All my ebooks are epub. When I import another format (e.g. mobi), they convert to epub on import.

Can I setup calibre to NOT covert pdf's on input, but all other formats still convert??? I want pdf files to remain pdf.

I have tried to find this within calibre and searched, but so far no such luck.

Appreciate the help

calibre does not auto convert on import unless you told it to under Preferences->Adding Books

Okay, I see it now. You can't select WHICH files convert on import - only all files convert on import if their not epub.

Best bet would be to turn that check box off and import only the pdf's - then turn it back on.

Really appreciated.

Thanks Kovid.

@Chris_Snow - Autoconvert only applies when Adding Books, it does not apply when books are copied from another library. So on Windows, if volumes warrant and if like me you're liable to forget to flip the setting after importing pdfs, an alternative might be to:
  • install a Calibre Portable, in which Autoconvert is not set,
  • import your PDF's via Calibre Portable into its default library
  • use the Copy to library->Choose library path->Move option to move the books to your 'normal library'
It does mean stopping and starting different editions of calibre to import PDF's. For me at least it would be safer, and it would avoid the issue of waste of time PDF conversions.

However, I import quite a few PDF's and/or CBZ's every day, and I rarely convert them (CBZs never), so I decided not to use Autoconvert.

@ BetterRed,

Thx for that. I'll give that a look. Never thought of a portable version. Sounds promising.
