OK, well I'm very familiar with ePub and I'll finally realise some use for my "original format" custom column in calibre. Is calibre conversion the best way to make epub from azw3?

I think that question comes under the heading of 'Politics & Religion' IMHO a calibre conversion is as good a way as any if (big IF) you get your conversion settings right. However some people will argue that the calibre KindleUnpack plugin is a better option because it just does a format shift rather than a full conversion. |

Ah yes, I remember KindleUnpack now, it does a good job and preserves style names. Is there a UK release date yet for the Aura One? |

This brings up an off topic question. How are authors compensated for library books? I always figured they got some level of royalties based on checkouts, but I wonder how that compares to an actual purchase and if they have any control over whether their book can go in a library.

In the US there is no extra compensation based on borrows. I would hope they get their royalties paid based on the inflated price some pubs charge for library ebooks (up to 3 times retail cover price) and for the publishers that use the expiring ebook model (after X number of borrows) the author should be getting paid each time a new copy has to be purchased. Not sure about elsewhere. In general it's up to the publisher whether an ebook is available to libraries or not.

Doesn't make good business sense unless they are planning a glo HD 2nd edition in the spring. JJ Last edited by jerryleejr; 08-22-2016 at 11:13 PM.

I don't believe there is such a beast as an Aura HD 2nd. There is an Aura 2nd edition, at 6" and 212 ppi, which is both smaller and far less sharp than the Aura HD or ONE. For the $10 difference in price between the Aura 2 and the Glo HD, though, I can't understand why they are both products.

For -you-, others like being able to put ereaders in their jacket pocket. I know you love to make the case for cases, but I've never used a case more protective than a silicone shell and I've never had an eink screen break on me.

The Aura One has the night mode where you can remove the blue light from the light. Also, the Aura One has an auto adjusting light. No other Kobo Readers have these features.

Now me, I have a superb sense of humour. Just ask my wife. She every time I mention it. And Jon, me NOT being able to put the device in my pocket as I walk around is more likely to get it damaged. In that case, I would be carrying it in my hands where it is more likely to be bumped by someone and dropped, I would have only one hand available if I tripped and need to grab some thing to hold, easier for someone to grab and run, and drop when they realise it isn't an iPad and tempting me to read as I walk making all the problems above more likely to happen. Putting an ereader into an appropriate pocket is NOT a risk to the ereader.
