Linux + Calibre + Boyue T62D + MTP = Problems... for me

I am new to Linux. Used to use Windows.

I have 2 Linux set-ups now: Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 LTS and Zorin OS11 (based on Ubuntu 15 if I understand correctly). Both these behave the same way in this case.

I have a Boyue T62D (running the Energy Sistem firmware)
When I have the "USB Connect Mode" set to "MTP" (Under Settings > User settings), I experience exactly the issue mentioned here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=271220 (Calibre 2.51.0 triggers MTP failure with particular device)
(The MTP device mounts OK when plugged into the USB port, and I can see and browse the contents, but as soon as I start Calibre, then it seems to unmount -> try to re-mount -> unmount -> try to re-mount...etc. until I close Calibre or unplug the device.)

When I set "USB Connect Mode" set to "Mass Storage", everything works as expected.

Under Windows, both settings work without problems.

Other MTP devices (Nexus 7 and Samsung phone) works correctly in MTP mode.

I suspect it is a Ubuntu<>Calibre<>T62D issue, but am not sure where to start looking for a solution... Any advice or pointers would be appreciated.

2.51 is OLD
Distros rarly keep up with the Calibr release frequency

Uninstall that (the Library and settings remain)
Use the Commandline on the Calibre Linux download page (I found I always have to use it for bi-weekly updates)

If you have or can get google play then Calibre Companion is highly recommend for Android Devices.

Figure out what is trying to auto-connect to the device in your desktop environment and disable it.

Because AFAIK the linux MTP implementation can only work with one application at a time. And if it is being handled by your DE's File Browser as a virtual filesystem, calibre does not have the necessary control to interface with it.

Make sure you have not told calibre not to mange your MTP device. See screenshot should not be any boxes checked.

OK, thanks. Checked, and that tab has only my Nexus 7 listed, but not checked.

Also, for the record (I forgot to mention it in my 1st post) on Ubuntu I have Calibre 2.59 installed and on Zorin OS11 I have Calibre 2.64 installed. Both are behaving the same.

Following this and un-checking the auto-mount box, the T62D connects properly with Calibre.

It does however stop everything from auto-mounting. It would be nice to be able to selectively stop only the T62D from auto-mounting.

This is however not a Calibre problem, so I will go look for a solution elsewhere. Thanks for all the info and advice!

I say try using Calibre Companion it works on the Boyue T62D see this thread.

The wireless interface is way faster than using the usb.

As you discovered, that basically means telling Nautilus (for the Gnome desktop) not to auto-mount it as an attached device.
It isn't really, it is a networked device using the MTP protocol, not a USB device using USBMS. But the Gnome Virtual Filesystems (GVfs) implementation fakes it, which is how it shows up in Nautilus.

I am unaware of any way to tell Nautilus/GVfs to ignore specific MTP devices.

This is bad news, but it does make me feel better, since I could not find anything about this and I thought it was due to my lack of Linux knowledge (not knowing the correct search terms).
