OK, something weird just happened. I used your Kobo patch yesterday to 'inoculate' my H2O, you might say, as my PC is still at 1511, so ni AU yet. All went well and everything still worked.

I just connected my H2O again, without changing anything, and I got a drive F: that showed up as unallocated in Disk Manager, like AU does with an unpatched Kobo!

I ran your windows patch program, which did its magic, and all is well again.

And I'm still at 1511, so no Anniversary Update involved at all...

Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll wait until MS/Kobo publish an update and then remove this entire fatpatch stuff. Some things are best swept under the carpet.

We do have a couple of messages saying the new insider build fixes this. If it's not fixed by the first week of September, I'll backup my Surface 2 Pro and install the current insider build to test this.

frostschutz, Thanks for your fix! Just registered to report what happened on my device. It was successful.

I have a Kobo Aura HD
software version: 3.3.0

And it could not be seen with windows 10 AU.

I connected it to a non patched machine, copy pasted the .gz on the thing and disconnected.
Then it went on to reboot, and showed me the clown. It seemed to get stuck, after minutes showing the clown. When I clicked on the screen it showed me the book I was previously reading for a second, and then back to the clown.
This went on for a couple of minutes.
I was just thinking of trying to power off the thing and reboot, when it rebooted itself.

After this it was visible on the windows 10 AU machine, and seems to work as it should.

Thanks again!

I reset my Aura today, restored a backup and it updated.
After Kobo update, my Windows 10 Ver 14393.51 could not see Kobo, of course.
I opened MiniTool partition wizard, and changed the partition Type ID to Fat32 LBA, applied the change, and bam! Windows can read it just fine. Why this worked? I have no idea... lol

Well, one problem is resolved. OTOH, you get the other issues that will happen with preview release builds to live with. This could be minimized by changing to the slow ring or the release preview ring after the initial update.

I'd suggest waiting for either Microsoft or Kobo to release a patch to allow Kobo's ereaders to work with the release version.

Quite No worries; such things don't scare me. But it's weird that your patch worked (or at least didn't seem to do any damage), as Windows still saw my H2O afterwards, and when I reconnected it about a day later without even rebooting either my PC or my H2O, it showed up as 'unallocated'. And that patching it again (with the Windows program this time) fixed it...

Oh well. Magic

I can confirm Build 14901 does indeed fix the problem. My Kobo Aura is now recognized properly by Windows 10, and thus it once again works with Calibre.

It's a preview build? fast/slow ring? I don't see updates

This is the first build for the Redstone 2 development branch. Build 14901 available selecting the fast ring for Windows Insiders (not downloadable for some people, including myself). Crashes Adobe Reader.

The fast ring updates the 1607 version to the build 14393.67, but the bug remains for this one.

If I sign up for the Insider Build, can I go from the November Update to the Insider or do I have to go Anniversary to Insider?

As far as I know, you can go to the latest Preview from any previous build. The download is more a OS upgrade than an update.

Yes, a preview build in the fast ring. Or, at least my settings are set to the fast ring. It may be available in other rings, I don't know.

The reports are correct. Build 14901.rs_prerelease 160805-1700 (Redstone 2) fixes all. My Kobo Aura HD hooked up to the PC instantly, showing up in File Manager, Kobo Desktop, and Calibre. Very pleasant.

MS describes this as a small release with improvements to HTML5/Edge. However, my PC did a full upgrade, ending with the "Welcome to the OS" messages. Nothing is mentioned about external partitions being recognized again.

For those interested, this link describes how to force the update (eg if you are not on the Fast ring; also because not everyone on the ring is targeted at the same time). It involves stopping Insider Previews and restarting them. http://www.windowscentral.com/how-fo...-14901-your-pc
