I actually quite like the look of it. Rather "retro".

If Amazon does announce an upgraded Kindle, how do you think someone will feel if they just received one after waiting 2 months? Speaking of which, the shipping delay is still 4 to 6 weeks.
As I noted on another thread, I suspect that they have quite a few already made as rumors have said that it was the firmware that caused the delay.

They could simply switch the orders over to the new version (or give the buyer an option to that effect) and do the release and solve the backlog in one stroke.

Agreed. I like mine except for the oft mentioned accidental page turn and the kinda-sharp-on-the-hand corners - both of which are fixed in the new version if it is as has been shown.

London seems to be a more appropriate place if they are to announce a model for the European market.

And as a Kindle I owner, I will not be upset if there's new model. It is just me though.

Isn't that what consumer electronics and computers is all about? You wait and wait and wait for the newest stuff to come out and when you finally can't wait any longer you purchase the item only to have a new version come out right after? Its happened to me on more than one occasion and always less than a year later. My last purchase, a fancy, state of the art computer processor and computer was superseeded by the Intel i7 not more than a month after my purchase.

Things like this happen all the time.

FYI I heard from the Smart Bitches that this is during the O'Reilly Tools of Change Conference in NYC, which is focusing on ebooks. That would be why it is in NYC.

And if this is true, they better call people who are waiting for Kindle 1s and ask if they want to keep with the Kindle 1 or get the Kindle 2.

Actually, you're wrong about that. Listings are a major part of what stock exchanges do. Some publicly traded U.S. companies list with the the NYSE, some list with NASDAQ. Others may list with regional exchanges such as the Pacific Stock Exchange.

This is from the NYSE's website:

"NYSE Euronext, the holding company created by the combination of NYSE Group, Inc. and Euronext N.V., was launched on April 4, 2007. NYSE Euronext (NYSE/New York and Euronext/Paris: NYX) operates the world ' s largest and most liquid exchange group and offers the most diverse array of financial products and services. NYSE Euronext, which brings together six cash equities exchanges in five countries and six derivatives exchanges, is a world leader for listings, trading in cash equities, equity and interest rate derivatives, bonds and the distribution of market data."

I hope it is going to be a big screen model.

If not, then I'm really curious as to what the new model will offer over the old model. As far as design/looks are concerned I like the old model better, and as to functionality I like the old model a lot more than the leaked information on the new model (no SSD card support, no leather cover - comes in a bag, etc.)

If it's with O'Reilly I really hope it's a large format reader. I've pretty much given up on reading tech books on the Kindle until I get large screen.

If the pictures I've seen are right, then no. It's actually a bigger unit with the same size screen.

that would be my guess also. I'd expect the new design to be cost reduced so they could convert all the Kindle orders to Kindle 2 orders at the "new low price" of $329 or maybe even $299.

If we're talking about the one posted with this article, I'm really hoping that's a prototype. If it's not, it shows they haven't been listening to their customers or tech reporters.
