Naw, bad idea, that would trash any real registration file unless ash tar has the 'skip existing' option.
*Might* not be a problem. Fake registrations get overridden by connecting to Amazon's servers (which know that Kindle is unregistered) -- perhaps invalid registrations for registered devices get corrected the same way.

(It only stores user-friendly device names and the send-to-Kindle email address.)

The most recent example, tested on 5.7.4.1 -

I even wrote: "If the Kindle connects to the Internet, Amazon's database always wins"

So, the device can be reset (as now described) -
The downgrade firmware installed -
The jb will drop a certificate and a fake registration file (to enable UYK on firmwares that need it) -
Then install the hotfix package with UYK -

Sounds like a 'one plan to fit all models' to me.

It is a good thing that (White) KT-3 devices are still relatively rare or we would have been swamped with trouble reports.

I don't know if anyone tested it on 5.8.x (our current problem case).

I am done with JB(as eschwartz told me) and I am going to install KUAL and KOREADER.
FW now is 5.6.0.1.1 and I want final FW. Shall I install KUAL and KOREADER after updating FW or they will survive update?

KUAL should survive an update after required reboots reinstall MKK. But KOReader and other hacks will probably need to be reinstalled after an update. Some KUAL extensions may need to be installed again as well.

Install the current firmware from your device's page at Amazon, use their directions.

Your jail break will survive the update.

Then install the things you want to after the update is completed.

That is normal.

Reboot the device using the power button (hold down for about 20 seconds).
That will make the bridge code run and re-install the jail break in the new firmware for you.

vgreader said on IRC (although he has since left the channel) that he tried rebooting the Kindle, and it didn't work. He also tried installing the Booklet form of KUAL, but the ";log mrpi" command no longer works.

The ";log mrpi" command (which he successfully used earlier today) is installed by the hotfix, which also should bridge the MKK.
A reboot should have fixed both (well, I assume the ";log mrpi" command is one of the things that is bridged!).

Which implies the bridge infrastructure has disappeared. I cannot think why that might have happened after a mere firmware update... unless of course vgreader has also performed a factory reset after having jailbroken.

@vgreader, did you perform a factory reset?



@knc1, can you think of any possibility I might have missed?

It sounds like he reset instead of restarted.
Also what country is he in?
Is he using a language translator?
Just running through all possible scenarios as to why he is having so many problems.

Downgraded a brand new, registered KOA from 5.8.1.0.1 to 5.7.4. I assume it will jailbreak fine. After jailbreak I plan to restore it to 5.8.1.0.1 and put a couple of books back on there. Can anyone confirm the jailbreak survives upgrading to 5.8.2 (current)?
