I do have a (disassembled) KT-3, but I can't make any promises about when/if I will have time to troubleshoot this problem.
Nope, it is a KT2 not a KT3.

I did re-read my own instructions - that 'Reset (to factory defaults)' has to stay - it is the thing which gets the /var/local database files ready for an older firmware version.

Hmm...
Which currently on the KT-3 does not need to be done -
The KT-3 can only be running customer-5.8.0, -5.8.1, or -5.8.2 so factory-5.8.0 should not choke on an existing database.

Maybe another 'special case' (like the pw-2) in the directions for the KT-3?

After factory restore
As you may remeber I got repair code 2.
KV
FW 5.8.1 when I started JB
No passcode
Special offer disabled
Reaset before JB start was done
Battery fully charged
I did the JB but with a notice (inside a book)
Did every thing until step 7
While wifi update was going on I got repair code 2
Now I have some questions
1. Is the factory restore the only way to go?

2. How can I use Hashmyfiles(excuse me but I dont know how to and one of the possible reasons of failure could be corrupt file)

3. After factory restore what should I do?

Is it OK to use this instruction to downgrade FW on already jailbroken device? Or do I need to uninstall something (JB, hacks) before Reset?
KV 5.6.5 JB + some hacks (dictionary window looks better on previous FW).

Yes, you can.

The sequence:
*) Reset (to factory defaults)
*) Install an Amazon image file (which the downgrade files are)
Wipes everything that we can wipe on a Kindle.

For the KV, you will then be running factory-5.5.0

In Step #7 you can choose any firmware version released for the KV from 5.5.0 .. 5.8.2 on the Amazon download server.

Read Step #8

Then re-install your choice of after-market add-ins ('hack' is just a four letter word).

Open the .md5 file in an editor. Drag and drop the .bin file onto the HashMyFiles window. Wait for it to compute the hashes. Compare the MD5 hash for the .bin file to the hash stored inside the .md5 file. They should be identical.

Or use RapidCRC to verify the .md5 hash -- it will compute the MD5 of a file with the .md5 extension removed (.bin.md5 -> .bin in this case) and compare that to the MD5 value in the .md5 file. If RapidCRC is associated with .md5 file extensions, just double-click the .md5 file to verify its corresponding binary file.

Windows also has a built-in md5sum program, but it has a strange name and is a command-line tool.

I could not wait. created do restore file and put it in kindle. did not do anything else and it rebooted by itself without my intervention or holding power button while it was still connected to PC. now it is debricked(if I am right?) and FW is 5.6.1.0.5(2588930001). space available 3112 MB.

Now I want to re do the JB. but first I need to know what was wrong the first time. any ideas?

Clarified the 'must be registered' guideline a bit.
Still probably needs other tweaks for the case of the factory-5.8.0 downgrade package.

I'll fix'm as I find them.
But keep in mind, I do not own a KT3 myself (none of the developers on this project do).

I checked md5 and now I can say it is ok.

Is there any way to be sure first about JB status?

if I am done with JB form which step shall I continue?

This is one of the ways to know if your done:

Put the attachment here into the /mrpackages directory -
Trigger MrPI (either through KUAL or the search bar command: ;log mrpi )
Tell us what happens.

You should expect to see the installation progress bar and the creation of a new document named:
dummy_testupdate.log

That is all this package does, is test things and write a new document.
It does not actually install anything.

I think it is step 6 that must be done. my device is not registered now, shall I register it before proceeding? and what version of packages from NiLuJe's snapshot threads supports KV? JailBreak-1.14.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.zip?

such directory does not exist on my kindle. just documents folder.
