Who here used to carry around a Kindle 2 or a Kindle 3/Keyboard and didn't complain about the size/weight? if you did this, then you can easily carry around the Kobo Aura One as it's lighter and smaller than both Kindles.

Expectations change, Jon. People didn't used to complain about the "brick"-sized mobile phones of the 1980s - they were only too pleased to have a mobile phone at all - but nobody would want to carry one around now, after having grown accustomed to having one that much small and lighter.

But if you did it before, you can do it again. And as for phones, I find them getting too thin. I want fatter & heavier with a bigger battery. Apple is making the iPhone 7 so thin that the headphone jack doesn't fit. This is just plain stupid. Keep it the headphone jack so a bigger batter can be used. That's not hard to do. Upping the length of time between charges will be a big selling feature.

Look at the poorly designed Oasis just to keep it thinner and lighter. It's a really bad design. The Voyage is a much better design.

I want an iPad Mini 1 sized iPhone 7.

Certainly I could do. But I choose not to. Other people are of course perfectly entitled to make a different choice.

But if you do it again, you get a rather nice device with a very nice screen and the ability to up the font size without having too many wide gaps or too few words per line.

I carry around my H2O and it's not a problem at all. The Aura One would not be a problem either.

I'm entirely satisfied with my Kindle Voyage for novels, and my 9.7" iPad for PDFs. As I posted earlier in the thread, I've already tried using a device with a 7.9" screen (my iPad Mini) and reached the conclusion that it didn't suit me. I wish you all joy with your 8" reader, but it's not for me .

Have you tried the iPad Mini for reading non-PDF books either ePub or Kindle?

Jon, I'm not going to discuss this matter any more with you. An 8" reader does not suit me. End of story.

It's your personal opinion that the Oasis is poorly designed, of course. I find it really comfortable to hold. The new Kobo, on the other hand... bigger, heavier, with those narrow bezels... no thanks, I'll pass. I could never find a way to hold this thing comfortably.

To each his/her own.

I'm not the only one who thinks the Oasis is poorly designed. Lots of others do as well. But be that as it may, the best way to hold an H2O, Aura One, PW3, & Voyage is with a good book style cover. Makes these devices easier to hold. It was the same way with my Sony Readers. A good book style cover helps make the Reader easier to hold.

Yes, I use such a cover with my Voyage. With the Oasis, I don't need a cover to hold it comfortably. As for the new Kobo, it would be even heavier with a cover on, so it's not for me.

But I'm glad that Kobo came out with such a reader, many people have been asking for a bigger screen. And Amazon needs a good competitor.

A 6" kindle has the WIDER display than a (1990's USA) paperback uses for PRINT.
The screen is SHORTER than that same standard page.

Note: I use the tweak/hack (also available from Calibre via the Kindle Collections PI) to reduce the side margins value from 40 to 10 (= 5 per side)
The text matches pretty much line for line (+/-font face variations)

a Plastic bezel is a lot cheaper than paying for a e-ink display of a larger size, JUST to display... Nothing

So, why must there be full sized e-Ink (side) margins??
You've a good point. And that's why I bought a Kobo. I find that you can't shrink the margins on a Kindle enough. What you see on a picture, is made specifically for that picture. I think that if you had that device in your hand with those settings, you'd probably also think that the font size is rather large...

Imagine the Voyage with a 6.8" screen and a larger battery. That I think would sell pretty well. Amazon could then charged the same as the Oasis and given people something for their money.
