I was out of options, so I decided to try the very first solution (with minitool). It works now, and after I copy the backup back everything is behaving like before this whole thing+Windows 10 AU can see the internal storage, but now with progress % again. Meaning, this really have something to do with the patch.

Sorry, I messed up the parameters, it was the other way around (-s 90 -n 420).
![]() Currently almost finished with a Win10 program that patches the FAT32. Will upload the EXE later. It has to be executed in a Command Prompt that runs with administrator privileges for low level disk access. Now the main problem is what to patch with, since the data I'm using is apparently causing side effects - I'll just try with whatever Windows uses, which just happens to randomly work [left alone by Kobo]. ![]() |

Hi,
Just trying this out ahead of the Win10 update. Device Kobo Glo HD Firmware 3-19.5761 So installed patch, clown flashed up black & white, kobo working correctly (apart from no % on sleep screen which is not an issue for me). However a non-updated Win10 PC can't see the device correctly. Clicking on the Kobo in File manager I get a "Please insert disc into KoboeReader' message and Calibre doesn't recognise it. Is this expected behaviour on a non-updated Win10 PC? Last edited by itsmir; 08-10-2016 at 07:08 AM. Reason: Forgot device type |

@grahamch: You have very strange bytes at the end of this thing, no clue where that came from. [Well, it shouldn't matter in the first place, but...]
Since I already made it, I attach the Win10 EXE version of fatpatch (it will probably require 64bit Windows but that's what everyone has nowadays - right?). This is a console program, you have to run it in Command Prompt with administrator permissions (search Command Prompt, right click, run as administrator, cd C:\Users\You\Downloads (or wherever you saved the file), fatpatch E: or fatpatch PhysicalDrive2 [if Win10 didn't give it a drive letter]. You can find the drive number in the disk management. This program will ask for confirmation before doing anything. It should display "Found FAT32 in sector 0 LABEL KOBOeReader", then you got the right one and can confirm with YES in capital letters. Otherwise, don't confirm. It didn't damage things for me but I can't guarantee it will do anything for you. Use at your own risk. As for all the other issues, I don't know what's going on anymore. I give up... sorry folks. ~~~ Removed the fatpatch hack since Windows has released an update that resolved this issue. ~~~ Last edited by frostschutz; 08-24-2016 at 05:04 AM. |

I can give you a fatpatch-revert (which patches with the default bootcode used by busybox mkfs.fat) but I'm not sure this will solve your problem. It seems like you might have a different problem. Somehow you change one thing and suddenly there is a landslide of other things that seem to be happening. I'm completely nonplussed at this point. Sorry for your troubles. As long as it still works for the Kobo itself (it didn't factory reset on you, still lets you read your books, ...) you should be able to access your files with a Linux Live CD. Edit: found out why it gets stuck on a black clown... Last edited by frostschutz; 08-10-2016 at 10:41 AM. |

Ok - will give the reverse fix a go. If this doesn't work should I factory reset as a final fix? Losing data is no problem - am backed up & library on calibre

I will post up a v4 in a while, there was a syntax error that caused the script to end prematurely, so it stuck on the black clown and never rebooted. In this case you had to pin push reset button.
However the part with the syntax error only mattered when something else already went wrong before that - basically this condition is not triggered on my device which caused me to miss the error in my testing. So there maybe another bug in the mod I have yet to find. @itsmir: if nothing else helps, factory reset should fix it for you. Do you have other mods installed? Which ones? How this mod causes power/screensaver settings to vanish is what baffles me the most. Zero ideas on that one... Last edited by frostschutz; 08-10-2016 at 09:54 AM. |

Well - isn't this odd. Ran the revert file in kobo, meanwhile my main PC upgraded to Win10 1511 build. So once the wee clown disappeared, plugged him in and prayed. The updated PC sees the kobo and so does calibre - hooray! Then tested on non updated PC and it also works correctly. Even better, the % read is back on my sleep screen. Everso slightly confused but happy - thank you @frostschutz!! P.S. No mods here Last edited by itsmir; 08-10-2016 at 10:21 AM. |

Even more confused... when I use the revert, for me it just goes back to 0xff 0xff and Win10 complains again.
Updated to v4 (in the post back on page 8, single zip which contains both fatpatch and fatpatch-revert). I think I'll leave it at that - sorry I couldn't come up with a better method - looking forward to what Kobo's fix will look like. |

Well, I solved it to my satisfaction.
Simply went back with the Windows back-up function to the system recovery point that was automatically made last saturday, the moment before the anniversity version was installed. I got my Windows from last week back and the reader is recognized again in Calibre and in the Kobo app. Disabled windows update for the time being, I'll switch it back on when it's safe. For anyone who has formatted their Kobo with MiniTool Partition Wizard, is the partition still seen by a previous version of Windows 10?
