This patch, it's for the most recent firmware (as mentioned in the linked post) https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=269574 if you are not using the firmware mentioned in that post, the patches will, at best, do little to nothing, or at worst have negative affects on your device. So please make sure you're on the right firmware. |

Thanks for the link. I wasn't wanting to install it, I just wanted to know what it is. It looks like unofficial tweaks. They look like very minor changes, not really interested don't see what all the fuss is.

That's what it is... all mods are unofficial naturally. If you're happy with the standard interface and standard settings, you don't need patches (or any other mod for that matter). But they make all the difference for some people who like to tweak the minor details of their stuff. |

I'm just happy there's going to be an updated large size e-reader in case something bad happens to my H2O. Although a 7.8" won't fit in my inside jacket pocket like the H2O does. |

But even if the ratio is the same, as it most likely is, we don’t know anything about the new reader’s bezels. It could have a bigger screen and still be the same size as the H2O.

Much as I'm looking forward to seeing what the new Kobos have to offer I really hope they don't shoot themselves in the foot by trying to launch them whilst the problem with the Windows 10 Anniversary update is ongoing.

Any good nostalgia store should have one. (I don't actually own one, but I would like to.)

Why not? With the launch of a new device, they could also launch the new firmware/drivers for the older devices that could solve the problem with Windows 10. And the Windows 10 problem is very recent, the new device has been under development for a lot longer time...

For the existing devices, it depends on how Kobo want to handle it. Sometimes they don't release the firmware to existing devices at the same time as the new devices. They seem to like to do this if there is new function and they want to make the new devices seem "special" for a while. Or simply to make sure the new users have a good experience with updating. Other times they release to existing devices a little earlier so that they are updated first. As no one has a real idea of what will be in the next release, or is on the new devices, we don't know what Kobo are likely to do.

Oh man, hurry up Kobo!!! I am waiting with baited breath every single damn day for just a tiny piece of info (price, release date, what it is, anything!), my H2O screen snapped in half (after four months of delicate, covere-d use mind you...grrr) and I happen to have a spare $300ish just sitting around as of today and really, really need a new ereader, more than ever before! If they dont hurry up I might have to buy an Oasis! Hurry up and take all my money already! |
