It would have to be a pretty big battery pack.
The normal sized battery in a Kindle only provides 2 to 4 hours of run-time (depending on many things). |

@gnormal Page turn app: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=276501 which you may want to look at and use locally via cron / running script.
You may either disable the screensaver (not sure if this prevents suspending) or reset the suspend timer every 9 minutes. '$RANDOM' may be available on Kindle. |

I'm having the oddest of bugs, my kindle according to the serial number is a PW3 (G090), I successfully jailbroke it (I would assume since KUAL runs fine), but here comes the odd part, as soon as I try to install something with mrinstaller it fails monumentally and misidentifies my kindle as a PW2. Pastebin for reference: http://pastebin.com/raw/8JztXbpk . So now I'm thinking perhaps I ought to try and fix the mrinstaller script myself but I can't really identify the problem.

NiLuJe, thanks for the 'last' feature, I'm not sure how old it is but I really like it!
I was just playing around now with the 'last' mode, setting my PW3 to landscape, then locking it, the screensaver gets harmlessly messed up. I assume the hack doesn't know or care about landscape mode and tries to apply the landscape screenshot with the portrait sized overlay. Do you know about this bug already? I hope it's not too hard to fix! New overlay images would need to be created though, I don't mind making them, just let me know. Thanks |

Only the older models use the first four characters. The 'something' you are trying to install, did you get them from NiLuJe's snapshot thread? If not, try those (they should work, because you where able to install the 'hotfix'). Last edited by knc1; 08-05-2016 at 08:55 AM. |

You are not using the MrPI from the snapshots thread. It is MrPI that provides the KindleTool binary, or in your case, doesn't provide a recent enough version. |

@Minuscule: Your device isn't misindentified (it rightly should be using PW2+ binaries [granted, that error message could be slightly clearer, but then to even get to see it you have to have a spectacularly broken setup in the first place ;p]), you just have an incomplete MRPI setup (said binaries are missing).
As @knc1 said, reinstall it from the current snapshots. Make sure nothing in your workflow gets any bright ideas and tries to automatically unpack tarballs along the way... @zxczxc: Wasn't aware, no. I don't *think* there's anything I can do about it, the setup is done at a point where the orientation used might not match what might be the one used when the device goes asleep. (i.e., "last" mode doesn't actually 'do' anything when you put your device to sleep, everything is done at framework start, which, in that specific context always starts with a set orientation anyway, I believe). And in that context, even if it were reacting on the 'go to sleep' event, that's too late to do anything useful anyway. Best I could do is probably add another setting to the KUAL extension to manually ask to use a landscape overlay? Last edited by NiLuJe; 08-05-2016 at 10:37 AM. |

That would do it, perhaps you guys should mention in the JB tutorial that packages in the threads are outdated. Either way thanks again.

NiLuJe, I assumed a screenshot/frame buffer was taken of the page just before sleep, the overlay then merged, then the image displayed as the screen saver... but from what you said it feels like I'm wrong about that.
If you are never actively 'getting' the current (last) screen, and somehow there is a kindle function that just blits the overlay over the current display, can't we still check what rotation we are in so we know what overlay to use, just before we do anything with the overlay? I don't really know how the internals work, when the framework is started etc, sorry, but I'm curious. Thanks. Manual would be an idea if there is no other way. knc1 - I think covers should remain portrait, at least, there are no display problems with that, just that there definitely is display problem with landscape+last mode. Portrait covers would look ugly in landscape. But I think you are joking anyway! ![]() Last edited by zxczxc; 08-05-2016 at 02:09 PM. |
