Kobo Canada has a new weekend sale in their Summer Reading Event, good through August 1st:

It's a good selection if you're into Canadiana, as you can get almost the entirety of series by Canadians Ian Hamilton (SYKM; I picked up his very fun mostly non-murder Ava Lee investigative adventure series starring a Chinese-Canadian Catholic Lesbian Forensic Accountant during a Canada Day sale years ago, and it's now one of my favourites and I'll be filling the newer books I didn't get back then now that they've dropped from their usual $12 price), Anne Emery (SYKM; we've previously received a 1st-in-series freebie), Scott Thornley (SYKM), Don Easton (SYKM; also previously 1st-in-series free), fellow MR member author Robin Spano (SYKM; also previously 1st-in-series free), as well as money-saving 3-book omnibus editions from Canadian small presses for generally under $4 CAD each.

I just replaced my computer and redownloaded kobo for desktop. It seemed to sync fine, but then I noticed a bunch of books were missing. So I went to my Kobo account and looked in my library. The missing books are showing as being in my library but when I clicked on them to redownload and I got this error message: "Sorry, this item is no longer available. You can look for other items by this author or about this topic using the search bar above". So I had my son check his kobo account and he is getting the same error message on a bunch of books. These are books we PAID for, not freebies. I've contacted kobo by email but still haven't gotten a reply. Not all the books are gone, seems to be certain publishers. Anybody else?

That message just means that the publisher has withdrawn the book from sale, I have quite aa few books where that has happened, but you should still be able to download them from your library by clicking on the three dots at the right and selecting "export file".

Or to make a non-syncing book syncable again, click the three dots and select "Move to Archive" and then switch to the archive tab, find the book that has been moved, and select "Restore to Library".

Anyone have any "general" codes? I know there's a big mystery sale going on this weekend, but I found a Baen book I'd like to buy. None of the codes from the top are working (I'm in the US) and I haven't gotten any "Miss you" codes. If anyone has any spare ones, let me know and I'll happily try them out! THanks!

Save it, if it's not a repeat, you may be able to use it after a week or so. I've had this happen a few times. Good luck!

I see anniversary20 on the first page, but my recent email is 20anniversary. Hopefully, this may work in the accounts in which you have already used the anniversary20 code.

Kobo Canada & US have a new Summer Reading Event weekend sale offer available: 299 Beach Reads for $2.99, mostly consisting of books from the major publishers, ending on August 8th. There are separate promo pages for each country, with some overlap between offerings, and a few titles are actually at the 99 cent and $1.99 mark. Some of them are eligible for the extra 10% off VIP discount, and probably a lot will be matched elsewhere.

There's actually some pretty nice stuff in there, including a Cherie Priest (ISFDB, Wikipedia) novel in the brief sf/fantasy section, and some interesting-looking non-fiction/history things, and some award-nominated mysteries. If you're a true crime buff, there seem to be a bunch of those in the History and Biography sections. And there's also some award-nominated Canadian literary fiction, if you're into that, including the 20th anniversary edition of a book I'd been considering at $4.49 during the Canada Day sale, but passed on, and will probably pick up now.

ETA: their pricing is a little wonky, with some books apparently not having yet been adjusted before being incorporated into the sale, but the stragglers will probably drop in a day or two.

For francophone readers, the Kobo Canada French Lectures d'été promo sale for the weekend is Prolonger votre plaisir de lecture, découvrez 180 séries formidables, with 1st-in-series introductory promo novels for just $1.99 CAD each. Most of them are English novels in translation, but there are a few French author originals scattered here and there. It looks like they're all from Éditions AdA (publisher website, Facebook).

Main promo page, and categories: Thrillers et science fiction, Romans historiques (mainly historical romance, from the look of it), Littérature sentimentale, Romans érotiques, Fantasy (looks like it's mainly paranormal romance), 12 recommandations de lecture pour jeunes adultes, Romans pour jeunes adultes… appréciés par tous!

On the regular Canada French promo page, Kelley Armstrong and Peter F. Hamilton are the Bragelonne (DRM-free) featured sf/fantasy sale authors of the month with all their translated books at $4.99 CAD (probably somewhat cheaper in actual France, since Bragelonne seems to have a bizarre idea of how the Euro to CAD exchange rate works).

Until August 31st, Kobo Canada has a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale on backlist romances reprinted by Open Road Books. This is not available in the US, which instead has a corresponding B2G1F sale on titles by Lisa Jackson (SYKM, Wikipedia), who writes mysteries, romances, and romantic suspenses.
