Don't be fooled: PDF is a valid e-book format, in fact, one of the very first. It's just not a popular e-book format.

PDF was originally designed to facilitate printing of electronic documents on different computer platforms, but it was later altered so that it served other purposes, including reading documents on the PC, and preserving formatting, without bothering to print them. That makes it an e-book format.

These days, scalability is considered key to "proper" e-book formats, so they can be read on various devices of different display sizes. Some PDFs will scale reasonably if they are properly tagged, but not all producers know how to tag a PDF... and some (non-Adobe) PDF applications, including those on most dedicated reading devices, cannot properly read a tagged PDF.

With those inherent limitations (and a large group of people who are philosophically against using Adobe products, even when they are equal or superior to available alternatives), you get a very vocal majority against the format. But if it works fine for you, by all means, enjoy it!

Feedbooks Edits Complete

Of course, a manuscript never seems perfect, but I can't afford professional editing. Hadrian fixed the cover art for me! Now, I'll see where else I can distribute this. For anyone who's interested, there's more stuff about this novel on the blog version of it.

72? Jiminy Christmas!

I leave to check email and stuff for a few minutes...

I'm so thrilled not everyone requires blood-sucking dead guys in their Young Adult novels.

But the output from Feedbooks is a lot nicer then what we get from Manybooks.

I've downloaded the ePub version from Feedbooks and have read the first chapter on my 505. So far it's interesting.

FWIW, the title should be The Star Captain's Daughter unless she is the daughter of multiple captains.

If nothing else...

I think my novel illustrates why Star Trek doesn't allow their captains to procreate with each other.

Yes, both her parents are star captains.

Thanks, JS. I was heading over to ManyBooks next, actually.

You might give Calibre a try in order to generate a good LRF. Of course, if you want, I can do so from either the ePub or the Mobipocket via Feedbooks. That way, the people with 500s won't be stuck with PDF.

Hi, Kimber An:

Yes, certainly check out Manybooks and Feedbooks, two major players.

Many people here prefer Feedbooks over Manybooks because of their attractive layouts. Manybooks, on the other hand, does indeed have more file formats. So: Those are two important pluses for EACH choice.

Also, don't forget MobileRead, as we have over 8,000 books at this time and growing rapidly.

I would also like to welcome you to MobileRead, even though you've posted about 7 times.

I always like to say this to pleasant personalities - Have Fun!

Don

Hey, Kimber An, I'm not sure if I can help you either, but maybe I can get a bit closer.

What are you trying to download, exactly, and from where? links would be helpful in being sure we're talking about the same things.
