				Backup Fails

			Dear Readers,

First of all, I hope this thread is posted in the right place. If not, please accept my appologies, I am a newbie... I could not find any topic that helps. I have tried several times to make a backup, but every time it fails. The directory I am trying to backup to, is empty. I added a printscreen of the message, Calibre shows. I appreciate any help! Thanks in advance, Harry |

That's a strange error, it means the read() systemcall is failing for some file in your calibre library. I have no idea what could cause that. General things to try are run the check library tool in calibre, run a chkdsk on the hard disk on which your calibre library is located, try moving your calibre library to another disk.

If none of those work, you can always just manually export your calibre library as described in the note here: https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...ter-to-another |

Sorry for the language, I thought, that since the text of the message was in english, that would do. I checked the library several times for errors, and there are no errors, also are the files in the library the same as in the database. Checkdisk gives no errors, now I wil see what happens when I move the library to an other location. |

2 Have you accessed the Library with another OS? (or have it on a NAS/cloud) check the permissions (properties:security) on all files in the library . It needs to be 'Allow' for everything except special |

I moved the library to another location, and than I could make a backup. Thank you Kovid! But still there is something very strange.. It looks like theducks are on the right path.. Thanks! After moving the total library to another path, I checked to see if the two directories were exactly the same, with the synchronize function of total commander, there seems to be a difference in about 10 specific opf files. Every time I try to synchornize, Total commander crashes.. The permissions of that files are all set OK. And no files are on a NAS. What makes it very strange, is that Total commander notices a difference In the time stamp) of opf files from books I am sure that I did not edit at all. So it looks like these opf files are causing the trouble, but why and how to prevent is not yet solved. I keep searching and will be back! Thanks all for your help and answers so far! |

The OPF gets written any time something about the book changes. Change the case of a Tag elsewhere (another book), that is also used in the metadata for this book. The OPF in all books that have that tag, gets refreshed |
