I'm now reading "Storm Front" by Jim Butcher. First of the Dresden books. Love it so far, the only downside is now I REALLY miss the show Stupid SciFi channel for cancelling it. There aren't even any reruns (bad, since I've only seen like three of the episodes).

Good is relative. Give it a try. But, I've watch hulu on my 50inch TV and it was good enough for me.

This is how I watched all of Firefly when someone told me about it. Now I have to try the Dresden files... never saw it before.

I thought it was rather awesome, obviously. The only problem was they ran the series out of order, for whatever reason.

I like Dresden Files, but maybe it would have been more successful if he had used moremagic. The scenes in his house were the best parts of each episode.

I liked Amsterdam also.

So far in the books, he doesn't use a lot of magic.

Bob always cracked me up the most.

I am currently reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.
Its quite European being set in Sweden with lots of place names with double-dots over their vowels but I am getting into it.

Superior Saturday by Garth Nix. Not bad. (I should be reading Rachel's The Elements of Moral Philosophy or Lakoff's book on metaphor, but I just can't seem to make myself do that tonight. )

Finished Superior Saturday. It was shorter than the others, but that meant less filler, as well. From the cover, I had sort of expected Arthur to be involved with the sorcery training that Saturday is known for, but there was surprisingly little about that. I have mixed feelings. I thought Nix got a little carried away with clever little details in some of the other books, but I was actually looking forward to reading more about the sorcery college/exam system. On the other hand, the pace of the plot really didn't allow for much dawdling at this point.

Arthur's increasing struggles with the influences making him less human seemed a bit abrupt, but I suppose that was part of the theme of the book. There had been some lead up to this in Lady Friday, but it still seemed to come out of nowhere sometimes in this book.

As I had known from reviews, it has a rather abrupt ending, and is clearly setting up for the final volume (Lord Sunday). I'm not sure where Nix is going with the story, which is good. I'm hoping for a really interesting, clever, surprising finale.

Just finished 'Caught Stealing' by Charlie Huston. Okay but it sort of lacked a clear protagonist.

Owing to the thread about 'The God Delusion' by Dawkins now banging around the Sony 505 Section, I spent my JNYREADS 20% discount buying it and have just started.

I Just Finished

The Machine That Changed the World: The Story of Lean Production--Toyota's Secret Weapon in the Global Car Wars That is Revolutionizing World Industry by James P. Womack
Which While being a bit of a mouthful to say was an interesting read. As it was an old book, (originally published 1992) it was interesting to see what had changed since then and what had not.
The authors commented on the fact in the new afterword in the current (2006) edition, but even then the industry has changed quiet a bit.

The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century by Thomas L. Friedman which makes an interesting read, and does make quiet a few good points on the nature of globalisation and some of the historic trends that have influenced its growth.

I'm also reading

Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism by Robert Pape which while a bit heavy at times does provide a good historic prospective of Suicide Terrorism.

As that something on the minds of most people, with the current situation, it helps to read a somewhat neutral and academic viewpoint on the issue.

The Physics of Superheroes by James Kakalios Which is a nice discussion on how superpowers would work in the real world, a definite enjoyable read (so Far) for any geek.

Is "Caught Stealing" a prequel to the other Charlie Huston freebie? (I can't remember the name - SORRY! And don't have it on my new 505.) But it was about this burnt out assassin, used to be a baseball hero in high school, became an assassin in order to protect his parents from the mob.

I ask because I started reading "Caught Stealing," and right from the start the violence was non-stop, like in the other book. The other book was very graphic and grisly. So, I deleted it after 25 or 30 pages. Sometimes that much violence is too much for me.
