I think you won't regret buying the Oasis as it meets the requirements you outline in your first two paragraphs. As far as the battery is concerned, I treat this Kindle the way I've treated all my previous Kindles and I've never run out of battery (and I read a lot.)
I have the walnut brown leather case and it's the nicest case I've had. It has some texture to it (though it isn't a suede leather) and will show dings and scratches, most of which disappear when you rub them with your finger, if you care about dings and scratches. It has an aged patina to it that's very understated. I'm not sure how vigorously you toss items into your carry-bag, but you might take that into consideration. My only other recommendation, depending on how your feel about fingerprints, is to invest in a skin for the front. I have the black-grained matte one from Decalgirl which completely hides any fingerprints. The bezel which has the page turn buttons is very wide and does attract fingerprints as that is usually how you end up holding the reader. Good luck. Jim |

My laptop actually has a battery saver mode that will not charge it more than ~58℅.

I can hold an H2O one handed. I can hold a PW3 one handed. I can hold a 650 one handed. I can hold a nook STR one handed. So don't get the Oasis on the mistaken idea that it's the only one you can hold one handed.

If you think of the Oasis as not luxury-priced but ergonomic-gear-priced, it starts to seem downright cheap: most ergonomic stuff has a markup of 10x or more, because the people who need it *really* need it and much of it is price-benchmarked against medical gear. |

The best solution might be to get a stand. Then you can have whatever Reader you want because you won't have to hold it.

What am I going to do with a stand when I lounge on a sofa, which is my most favorite place to read. You have to hold it so the right distance to glasses is done and you don't look down to far or you gonna have neck issues. That is just silly.
The oasis is the only kindle I have ever had that I can comfortably hold for extended periods of time in one hand. Of course I can technically hold all of them, but I can't change pages on the other modes with the same hand. I think only the K1 I would do that, but it was a bit heavy after a while. I could never hold and change pages on the Voyage in one hand, it would fall out of my hand. I think the basic button one I could hold it, but its a moot point now as it doesn't have a light and I can't see. I can finally read with one hand, while not getting cramps in either my wrists or joints. It is a joy. And I can hold it just right so I can see the screen through my bifocal area. I could not read sitting on a table for long very comfortably. I'd have to lean forward till my glasses kick in and then my neck and back would hurt. I like to comfortably lounge and read for long reading sessions. Once it gets a bit cooler I'll lounge on the balcony on the lounge chair. Same idea. ![]() Unless you have actually used a Oasis, you have no idea just how different ergonomically it is from the other flat rectangles. Its like the joy I had when I first got my K1, just much lighter, much better. But it too was actually designed for reading. I feel like I have come full circle again, with all the devices in between being just ok, or good but not great. Everyone has different hands so just because someone else might be able to sit for 4 hours straight holding a PW in one hand with no issues, doesn't mean others can do the same. Even the Voyage caused me pain after a while. I read a lot and I like to read long periods of time. I cramped because trying to hold on to the device while trying to press down on the haptic just wasn't ergonomic for me. That bezel was too thin and it kept slipping out of my hands. |

Thought I'd write this here but I got my kindle oasis today and sending it straight back for the following reasons:
THE OASIS IS NOT MORE COMFORTABLE TO HOLD,in fact I found the opposite and can't believe no one has brought this up before, having to position and grip the small wedge I found actually to be more UNCONFORTABLE than the standard back of the PW3 or voyage, the texture is also not as 'grippy' and all in all is just not a pleasant experience for me. My second major complaint is the screen light, not only does it shadow in the corner (many people have complained about the oasis light),the main problem is that it's a sharp blue hue, whereas the PW and the voyage both use yellow hues,I find this unbearable for reading and the yellow page like hue is MILES BETTER than the oasis blue hue,a HUGE disadvantage imho. Other than that the page buttons are nice and it feels very sturdy and well built, that is a major plus against the soft build of the other kindles. I also had a problem with mine in that the touchscreen every few minutes would become totally unresponsive so I had too press the power button on and off for it to recognise touch input again. I got the walnut cover and REALLY love the texture and look of the cover but I'm afraid the oasis on the whole is really a step back from the voyage and was actually more uncomfortable due to the slim wedge hold. I had slated the oasis at launch but with my PW3 having a broken backlight I thought instead of going for a voyage again I'd try the oasis,I did, hated it and am now sending it back. I would even rate the oasis below the PW3 for the reasons I mentioned,it really is a sub-par device and for the money is unjustifiable in every way possible. I really don't know how voyage owners who bought the oasis can recommend it! Last edited by Jason90; 07-29-2016 at 07:29 AM. |

Well, it's all subjective. The Oasis did not suit you personally. I personally find it much more comfortable to hold than the Voyage. The screen is not blue either (possibly you got a lemon), nor are there any shadows in the corners.
The screen can be unresponsive while indexing. Once the indexing is done, at least the screen on my Oasis is very responsive, no freezes whatsoever. That's my two cents, anyway. Everyone has a different perspective. |

I can read without pain in my hands now for hours. By the way, my Oasis was not responding well when I first got it. Then I figured it out, it was in the middle of not only syncing to my gazillion collections, it was also getting an update at the same time. It ended up rebooting on its own and I thought I killed it already. ![]() |
