Did you factory reset your KOA after the jailbreak? If so, that removed the ;installHtml command, in which case you must reinstall the downgrade factory firmware. Then it should work.

Is your serial number prefix in the serial number table? If not, then some tools need to be updated to support your kindle. The instructions in the first post say "STOP" in this case.

Please answer those two questions so we can help you.

Did you 'reset' your Kindle at ANY time after installing the downgrade package?

Same as above, you wiped the required searchbar command by converting factory image to consumer image.
Re-install the downgrade package.

But I am going with #2 above, check the table for your serial number first.

Turned out it was a combination of Safari and the default 'Archive Utility' on OS X not playing nice with the downloaded files. Downloading the same files for step 5 and step 6 with Chrome and using 'The Unarchiver' (on the hotfix .zip) did the trick.

It was a suggestion earlier in this thread about an archive utility messing with line endings that made me double check with different software.

The error code in step 6 was caused by the failure of step 5.

Thanks for the feedback - it adds one more question to ask the next person that reports that problem (I.E: What OS are you using?).

Ah, so -
My Linux distribution (browsers) pop up a panel with the choice "open with ...." or "save file".

Evidently MacOS skips that confusing, technical question and just helpfully jumps right into opening it with the default archiver.
And then if you save it from the archiver, it gets re-archived, not the original file saved.

All of which does not seem to account for a change in line-endings, since MacOSx uses the same line endings as Linux.

But I suppose there are other things that could get changed about the file or archive structure that confuses the Kindle firmware.

So the culprit is probably the same, although the details may be different.

Yeah, add to that the fact that I'm possibly misremembering things. I know Safari does crap like that, but I suddenly can't remember if it's with gzip of zip files, or both... Or if that possibly changes if you have extra stuff installed to handle those mimetypes.

Well, I managed to brick it. The pastebin showed PW3(W) and I thought it was only for the White version, but I didn't see at the top that PW3(W) refers to both PW3 and PW3 white.

I used the 5.6.1.1 one.

Is there anything I can do about it? I've went to the simple debricking page but the things there are not for the PW3.

The pastebin has a note at the top that defines PW3(W) as both devices (PW3 and PW3W) in the same manner as DX(G) is both DX and DXG.

People have successfully debricked in your situation by using an empty flag file put on their kindle during a reboot to trigger factory restore. You can find how to do that earlier in this thread.

I have tried applying the DO_FACTORY_RESTORE file but now it still shows me error code 2 and I don't even see the kindle drive in my computer anymore when I plug it in.

Is it a DO_FACTORY_RESET or a DO_FACTORY_RESTORE? I'm seeing different people say different things..
