Correct, since Moon Reader is an Android app and the Kindle doesn't run Android...

Is there something you actually wanted to do with a jailbroken Kindle, or did you *just* want confirmation for what you say you already knew?

More specifically, was there a question you wanted to ask regarding the actual jailbreak process -- the topic of this particular thread?

Just because a single random Android ereader app doesn't work on devices it was never supposed to work on (like iPhones and Kindles and Blackberries and Windows phones and your toaster oven), doesn't mean there aren't perfectly good alternative reader software written for the Kindle. We'd be quite happy to help you jailbreak, even if you just wanted to install KOReader.

A completely expected result, you will have to de-brick it over the serial port.

The PW3 5.6.1.1 factory image is known to brick some Kindles. That is why it was withdrawn and the instructions amended to use a safer version.

If you, regrettably, used instructions that did not come from this thread, and the alternative instructions have not been updated properly (not uncommon, and we cannot ensure their accuracy hence our advice to always use this thread), then you have caused your Kindle considerable, though not irreparable, damage.

Follow the Master Index sticky to the "simple debricking" instructions and/or the recent firmware 5.6.x serial port jailbreak instructions, for guidance on opening up the hardware and manually restoring a working firmware.

Well, I followed the tutorial from this website Kindlefere. They translated this thread into Chinese and also mentioned that using copy of 5.6.1.1 to degrate can cause problem. I followed their instructions and meant to download the copy of 5.7.4. But they linked the 5.7.4-download-link to the 5.6.1.1 one by mistake, and I didn't realize that I was using the 5.6.1.1 copy until I met the problem. I reported the mistake to them, but they can't give a solution. That's why I came here.

By saying "debricking" do you mean taking the device apart? I don't want to do so if possible. cuz my device is brand new. Do you think it will work if I send the device to Amazon?

They have not done so.

Hi, I am deeply considering jailbreaking my new kindle. Havent done it before so trying to understand all the steps before I start, I have a kindle PW 2015 model and its a GO90 G1. Firstly is it possible to jailbreak and second I don't understand this:-
Download your model's initial factory firmware image using your computer. I have looked in the pastebin folder and have no idea which one I should get. How do I know which one is the initial factory firmware? sorry if this is a totally stupid question. I apologise in advance. Thanks

Your questions are answered in the first post in this thread. You should read it carefully and follow all the instructions.

Look up the "nickname" (such as "PW3") from the serial number link in the first post. Which model do you have (based on your serial number)?

Look for that model number in the pastebin. Copy/paste the URL into the browser web address bar. Download the file. Continue following the instructions in the first post.

Well, some of those are the *.md5 integrity checks.
There are indeed three download locations. The first listed is mediafire (free, hosted file sharing), and the other two are knc1's private server (costs him a bit of money, but no risk of being throttled). And you probably don't need the Europe server (#2).

There are some minor problems with that article. I sent the author this email:

You say no superpowers. With USB networking you get full root shell. You can do anything. You can even run the kindle video player on any eink kindle:

A nice summary, reads as if professional written.

Does not cover the KOA special case, but mine could be improved in that area also.

At least I don't think anyone will be bricking their Kindle from that set of directions.
