One question about syntax

Hi:
I have 2 custom columns: #nacionalidad and #nacionalidades. In the first one, I include the demonym of the country of the author; in the second one, I include the demonym of each author in case the book have two or more authors.

To show only the books in #nacionalidad from France, by example, I wrote this in the search bar:

#nacionalidad:"=Francesa"

But, how can I do to include this demonym in #nacionalidades, when in this field normally are 2 or more demonyms? By example, if #nacionalidades = Italiana, Peruana, Francesa, Belga, if I wrote

#nacionalidad:"=Francesa" and #nacionalidades:"=Francesa"

the result do not include any records about #nacionalidades because there are more than 2 data, not only one.

I think this gets you the metadata #nacionalidades where "Francesa· is included.

However if somebody knows a better way, please share.

What do you mean by "demonyn"? I haven't come across that word before.

I think she's talking about nationality (because of the Spanish field). I cannot find the other word either.

Maybe a typo of demonym. Long time ago I read that word. Guess, Terisa de morgan is right with her interpretation.

Glad to widen my vocabulary, I never had read that word. The word gentilic is more similar to the Spanish word.

Actually, Maria did not use demonyn, she used demonym, twice.

In the broadest sense 'demonym' is the name given to the people from a particular place - Londoner, New Yorker, Novocastrian. Nationalities -- German, Swede, Scot etc - are a subset. Demos - People, Nym - Name.

Thanks, BR. I'm afraid I've not encountered the word "gentilic" either, Terisa, and it's not in my Chambers' dictionary!

Gentilic and Demonym are synonymous. Gentilic also used to describe proper names derived from a place name - eg G. K. Chesterton is a gentilic name. Chester is a town in England founded by Romans.
