It should be under /documents.

I see a "dictionaries" folder and "Kindle_Users_Guide.azw3" file in the documents folder.

Based on this, should I assume the factory FW jailbreak from step 5 didn't really work?

Sorry for the wrong behavior, I know it's not included in the model list, but I thought it's a Kindle Voyage, so continued trying to downgrade and jailbreak.

I found your problem -

When eschwartz took over the jailbreak thread from Branch Delay, he and NiLuJe changed the packaging.
BUT
I did not notice the change or update the directions to account for the change.

Translation:
The Step 5 detail instructions inside of its spoiler are wrong.
Connect Kindle - PC with USB cable -
Transfer the file down loaded (it is a *.tar.gz file) to the top level of the visible USB storage root AS IS (do not unarchive it).

5.5 .. 5.end :: as written.

Thanks for sticking with it long enough for me to discover where I went wrong.

All of our update_*.bin name format packages are "model locked" (same as Amazon's, we use the Amazon installer).

Model number -> table -> KindleTool (the app that does the packaging) -> all of the released packages (including the hotfix).

If Model number is not in the table, none of the "model locked" packages will work, none, nada, zip, zero.

Re-download the 'hotfix' package (the above chain of dependencies has been updated to include your model since your report).

We (the various people involved) are discussing if the packaging should return to the original or if the directions should be changed to match the current packaging.

@knc1 -- apologies for switching it out from under you, I should've mentioned it here.

But I think in the long run everyone will be better off without the extra layer of indirection.
The only real need for zipping it was to bundle the README. Which works just as well in-thread.

Now it is just the one file...

How many times did we need to clarify for the old universal jailbreak, that it needed to be unzipped? It was an extra source of confusion.
