Can you please post a screenshot of a sideloaded book with the new updated Pageflip feature? I suspect you are talking about the first iteration of page flip, which shows a single page over the book allowing you to skim forwards and backwards rather than the 3x3 small poage grid of the updated PageFlip

I use bookmarks and search more than anything else (bookmarks if I keep having to refer to the same place). The old Page Flip is mostly useful for hopping around in the book without disturbing the time-to-read estimate (though this is increasingly pointless, since that estimate has got *horrifically* unreliable as of 5.7.x+, including 5.8.x, jumping abruptly from an accurate time to about 5 minutes every couple of hours and requiring resetting.)

My KPW1 always has a very accurate Time To Read, until at some random point, it just cuts the time exactly in half, but it also decreases slower. so, 4 hours suddenly become 2 hours, and 20 minutes of reading causes a 10 minute decrease in TTR.

My Paperwhite (7 gen) started showing New Page Flip and Export Notes this morning. There was no new software update (it has had 5.8.1 for several weeks), they must have turned something on on the server side. My Kindle (7 gen) has exactly the same software version (including the same build number), but does not have either feature yet. So it seems it hasn't been 'enabled' yet.

Kindle for Android was updated yesterday, and now has Page Flip (but not Export Notes).

I guess I am confused, are we going to get another update or is the flip page already in the latest firmware for voyage?

In an interview that Len Edgerly did with Amazon's Mike Torres it sounded like it was not a future firmware update and simply a switch that Amazon will throw to enable a feature that is already present in the current software just not activated. Mike said in the interview that if you just leave your book and go back in it might even be activated already.

Don't have it on my Basic (7th gen.) or my wife's Paperwhite yet. Love the Android app Page Flip feature though. The Page Flip feature that is already a part of the Kindle software on the dedicated e-readers is already fine for what it is and on a device with as low res as the Basic Kindle I'm curious to see if the bird's eye view Page Flip is useful in the least bit. Especially without the smooth flowing motion that I have on the Android app when moving up and down through groups of pages which helps me quickly find something from a few pages back, like a chart or whatever.

We shall see.

(Also interesting to note that the basic part of Page Flip (the semi-zoomed out swipe left and right contextual bit) is something that the Play Books app has had for quite a while as well. Useful there too.)

It appears to have been introduced in the 5.7.2 firmware, released early this year. I guess they didn't want to enable it until the Android and iOS versions were ready.

It isn't clear why some people got it right away and others are still waiting. For me it appeared after doing a restart.

What's annoying about it? If you don't like it, you don't have to use it.

That is true on the Kindle. But on Fire, Android, iOS, tapping to bring up reading options also engages Page Flip. Obviously people will have opinions about whether this change is annoying, welcome, or something else.

To me it is a clear improvement: you can actually look before you leap. Before, you had to trust that the little dot on the progress bar was where you wanted to navigate to, and these 'previous location' indicators could be too close for a tap to resolve which you wanted.

I love this on my Fire HD 8. Waiting for it to show up on my Fire HD 6. Tried to do it manually but even though it said it was updating, it didn't. Some Kindle books don't have decent TOC or page numbers, so using the page flip is a good way to see how many pages are left in a chapter.

It's on my HD 6, but not on my Fire 7". It doesn't seem to be on very many books. Or would you have to re-download to get an pf enabled version?

After checking page flip out on my phone and tablet I've decided I like it much better in that form than on an eInk Kindle. Might even get new to read more in the tablet!

You may need to delete and re-download books in some cases. Page Flip only works on books in KFX format. You only get them from Amazon for books that support Enhanced Typesetting and only if you had Amazon send the book directly to your device (not sideloaded.) Also, for Fire tablets it would have to have been on 5.x firmware when the book was downloaded.

The latest Fire firmware has the ability to download books to an SD card. This makes it easier to find the book files and determine their format if you are curious.
