I got my $10 credit for an email gift card that I sent to myself and redeemed. The terms were written poorly, but it looks like they were saying that the email giftcards couldn't be ordered for delivery after the promo period.

I can see that interpretation now. Oh well...

Another example of poor wording happened with the $30 Amazon Visa Card promo. Amazon ended that promo at about 2pm PT; way before the end of the sale.

The first term stated while supplies last and the second one stated it would be valid until the end of the day. So which was it? No wonder Amazon back peddled and sent out $30 credits to those who attempted to use this offer after it had been cancelled.

Get $30 off an Amazon.com purchase of $150 or more by selecting your Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card as your payment method and entering the promotion code VISA30 at checkout. Promotion code commences at 12:00 a.m. (PT) July 12, 2016, and expires at 11:59 p.m. (PT) July 12, 2016.

That one sounds pretty easy to interpret. Those two conditions do not contradict each other. Limited supplies means that there is only X amount of the promo, after that there is no more. However if for some reason they still have any leftover then they could not be redeemed after the promo ended. Pretty straight forward. It should have probably said that the promo is only valid if redeemed until the end of the day, no rain checks.

That's because the tuna comes with the Kindle Oasis. The Oasis is tuna flavored and the case is salmon flavored.

There was another badly phrased promo offer that annoyed my wife, though I didn't see it myself.
Apparently you get a $10 credit the first time you place an order though Alexa, but there was copy that made it sound as if your get the $10 off your first PRIME DAY order, even if you had placed an order though Alexa in the past. She wasted 20 min with CS trying to get the credit.

I don't read it that way at all. Since they used two separate paragraphs with similar openings, they were independent of each other. So which one had priority? It looks to me like only one of those statements was supposed to be used and someone screwed up and used both.

This is how Amazon worded the gift card promo. It's precise and to the point. Nothing ambiguous about it. They should've used the same wording for the credit card promo.

Well my three major gripes about this Prime Day are:
  1. Multiple, confusing listings that were often different deals for the same product. How the heck do you know where they all are or which is the best deal for you when you might not see all of them?!? I think it would be nice if they listed all the deals for a specific item on the same page so you could see which you qualified for and make a more informed decision.
  2. Hidden deals. After I bought my Echo for $130 using my Chase Visa Amazon card, I learned that if I had purchased $150 of deals I would have gotten $30 off. So I think that means I could have selected another $20 worth of deals and still paid $10 less! Those kind of deals and offers should have been more clear and easier to discover. An email would have been nice a few days prior to the deals.
  3. Finding deals was a royal PITA. It still requires a lot of browsing, or what I call near blind browsing. And as usual, Amazon placed a lot of items in unrelated categories, and that makes them harder to find. Personally, I hate only getting to scroll through a single page with 30 or so items per page, then having to wait while their slow server pulls up the next page.

Yes, they could and probably should have. Except a very clear definition of July 12, 2016 would have necessary in the fine print. E.g. when exactly the day starts and ends.

Yep - time zones. This would've been better:

This offer is good only on July 12, 2016 from 12:00am (PT) to 11:59pm (PT), and while supplies last.

Pretty soon, someone is gonna bring the horse out

Last year's Prime Day could be excused a bit for the goofs, because they probably didn't plan for it an entire year. This year they had a full year to plan and managed to make more mistakes than last year!

Wait till next year!
  • A server will explode at the start of the sale, setting the entire data center on fire.
  • They'll only list the deals two to a page, and you have to wait five minutes for another page to load.
  • They'll split deals across fifty different sites, with overlapping deals that might or might not stack depending on the phase of the moon and what direction you stick your tongue out.
  • And then they'll forget to ship half of it till the next week.
And they'll still do more in sales than this year's Prime Day somehow.

Yep, they need to use a specific time zone for all their listed times. The military, scientists, businesses, etc. use UTC, but the average shopper on Amazon would be totally confused over that. But if Amazon stuck with PDT and made a point of reminding us that all listed times were in PDT, then many of us would figure it out. But of course many if not most would still get confused. You cannot fix stupid! But at least the info would be there for those who can figure out time zone differences.
