Strangely enough the second title in the series, Hole in One, already had dropped in price to $0.99 at least a couple months ago - usually the first in series drops first or only. It is still at $0.99, so if you read the first one and like it, the second one is affordable too.

And even more strangely, the box set of two titles is still $11.99. No link given
sufue I've just checked Amazon AU and Kobo AU and there is a 2 book 'bundle' for $1.99.

I haven't read this author before, but hey, it's great value considering that in AU the price of the first book is $13.99 (Kobo).

Well, in the US (Kindle) the two book bundle is still stuck at $11.99, and the two individual books are still $0.99. Don't know if someone just missed reducing it here or missed reducing the price of the first one in AU or if this is just another example of the weirdness of the BPHs. In any case, it seems there is a way to get the two at a reasonable price either way . I haven't read either, but thought they seemed promising enough to buy. But they won't be at the top of my TBR list - that slot is currently occupied by Gail Bowen's newest, What's Left Behind, which had briefly dropped to $4.99 as part of some Kobo Canada sale you listed.

The first three titles in the Guido Guerrieri series by Gianrico Carofiglio have dropped to $1.99 as part of the Nook US Daily Deal today. I've had my eye on this series for a while, but they've just been too pricey, so I'm happy to see these, and happy to have a way to spend some of my BN price-fixing credit! Currently not matched at either Kindle US or Kobo US.

Involuntary Witness, #1

Spoiler:
Quote:
Publishers Weekly. A bestseller and winner of multiple awards in Italy, Carofiglio's debut should please fans of American-style courtroom thrillers. A murder case presents Guido Guerrieri, the archetypal burned-out defense lawyer, with a chance at redemption. A Senegalese peddler, Abdou Thiam, is arrested for killing a nine-year-old boy, whose body was found at the bottom of a well near a coastal resort in southern Italy. Even though the police have only circumstantial evidence against Thiam, he's advised to take a plea bargain that would allow him to get off with only 20 years in prison. Guerrieri becomes convinced that his new client is the victim of racism and is being used as a scapegoat. Defying conventional wisdom and putting his own career on the line as well as Thiam's fate, Guerrieri takes the case to trial. The result is a powerful indictment of the Italian justice system.

When no lawyer accepts to represent Marina in her attempt to bring her boyfriend to trial for assault and battery, Guerrieri takes the case. No witnesses willing to testify and a hostile judge: just his kind of case. Doesn’t hurt that he’s attracted to Sister Maria, the young woman protecting Marina, who shares his love for martial arts.

A man gets sixteen years for smuggling drugs into Italy. Guerrieri takes on the appeal, discovers the accused was a neo-Fascist thug, and ends up in bed with his beautiful half-Japanese wife...the gnawing boredom of routine.

A Thrust to the Vitals is the 10th in the Rafferty & Llewellyn series by Geraldine Evans. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.

Why not pick up #1 in this series - Dead Before Morning - it's free!
*
Returning to Elmhurst many years after his involuntary departure, to attend a civic reception in his honour, Sir Rufus Seward ignored the maxim that 'going back' is not always wise.

Summoned after Seward's body is found, a wood chisel protruding from its back, Dl Joe Rafferty receives a panicky call from his younger brother, Mickey, who fears he is in the frame for Seward's murder. Strangely, given his loathing of the dead man, Mickey had received an invitation to the reception. Keen to confront the bully who made his youth a misery, Mickey found his tormentor's body, and fled the scene...Rafferty, aware that his brother hated Seward, and that Mickey, a carpenter by trade, has three pointers to guilt -- the means, the motive and the opportunity -- finds himself torn between protecting his family and finding the real killer.

But he can't protect Mickey forever. and if he wants his little brother to have a normal life again, he must find the killer - as a matter of urgency.

And, although the four book set of titles 1-4 that was free a little while ago is no longer free, the first title in this series, Dead before Morning, is still free, so you can see if you like the series: https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Before-M.../dp/B004EYUHN8

And yes, @HarryT, just to save you the clicks, this is another one of her formerly conventionally published titles (Severn House)...

USA Today Bestseller!

One heir after another turns up dead?

Silas Kane's sixtieth birthday party is marred by argument and dissension amongst his family, and then the next morning, Kane is found dead. The coroner's verdict of death bymisadventure would seem to confirm that Silas accidentally lost his way in the fog. But then his heir is shot, and threats are made against the next in line to inherit his fortune. The redoubtable Superintendent Hannasyde is called in to investigate. All clues point to an apparently innocuous eighty-year-old woman, but as the Inspector delves further into the case, he discovers that nothing is quite as it seems?

Behold, Here's Poison, #2

Spoiler:
Quote:
Experience Georgette Heyer's sparkling dialogue in one of her most popular mysteries.

It's no ordinary morning at the Poplars - the master is found dead in his bed and it turns out that his high blood pressure was not the cause of death. Heyer uses her attention to detail and brilliant characterizations to concoct a baffling crime for which every single member of the quarrelsome family has a motive, and none, of course, has an alibi. Heyer's sparkling dialogue is a master class in British wit, sarcasm and the intricacies of life above and below stairs.

Meet the Matthews - before the next one dies...
It's no ordinary morning at the Poplars - the master is found dead in his bed, and it seems his high blood pressure was not the cause. When an autopsy reveals a sinister poison, it's up to the quietly resourceful Inspector Hannasyde to catch the murderer in time to spare the next victim. But every single member of the quarrelsome Matthews family has a motive and none, of course, has an alibi.

The Grand Tour: Four International Mysteries is an omnibus of four titles by Michaela Thompson (pen name for Mickey Friedman, or maybe vice versa).

It is a US Kindle Countdown at $0.99 for about 12 more hours. All of the titles in this have been on sale/countdown before, so check carefully before buying this omnibus.

Titles are:
  • Magic Mirror
  • Temporary Ghost
  • Fault Tree
  • Venetian Mask

Spoiler:
Quote:
Adventure Travel In An Armchair ... At An Unbeatable Price!
Armchair travelers who happen to love cozy puzzlers won't be able to resist this deal. Four of Michaela Thompson's delightful international mystery novels—set in France, Italy, and India—each featuring bright and funny leading ladies, are on sale as a box set, for only 6.99!

Take the grand tour! Cuddle up and enjoy these exotic and thrilling adventures one after the other.

MAGIC MIRROR

SACRE BLEU! THEY KILLED A MAN FOR A MIRROR!

Florida transplant Georgia Lee Maxwell doesn't take to Paris at first, despite the fact that she's at least leaving a no-good man and a hated job as a society editor. Now she's a Paris correspondent, thank you very much—a dream come true for any journalist.

There's just a slight down side—she arrives in freezing rain, gets caught in a traffic jam caused by a bomb scare, and hates her apartment; but the real Bonjour is finding herself face down on a museum floor during a robbery. Three terrifying masked gunmen shoot the unfortunate security guard and make off with only a mirror. Does it have some prophetic ability? Does someone know something the gendarmes don't? Here's what Georgia Lee knows: If she finds out first, she's a journalistic hero. If she doesn't, she's dead.

A TEMPORARY GHOST

A GHOST-WRITING GIG IN PROVENCE--SHE'S LIVING THE DREAM! UNTIL THE KILLING STARTS...

In journalist Georgia Lee Maxwell's second adventure, she leaves her new home in Paris for Provence, where she's been offered a lucrative ghost-writing job. But her co-author, suspected murderess Vivien Howard, the widow of a wealthy New York financier, seems strangely uninterested in writing her memoir Vivian was widely believed to have murdered her husband but was never charged with the crime, and now she promises to tell all.

Amid the beauties of Provence, settled in, a charming renovated farmhouse, Georgia Lee finds a household full of ill-feeling, not to mention suspicious characters. Frustrated by Vivien's lack of cooperation and unnerved by threatening letters, Georgia Lee soon realizes that she has become a player in a more dangerous game than she could have imagined. And then there's another murder.

VENETIAN MASK

AT CARNIVAL IN THE FLOATING CITY—AN ARTLESS YOUNG AMERICAN, A MYSTERIOUS MASKED COUNT, AND MURDER

The surreal splendor of Venice glitters and mesmerizes as six so-called friends who, it turns out, barely know each other meet at Carnival to play a malignant game that quickly turns murderous. Sally, the “Tallahassee lassie” spurned by the rest as a virtual hayseed, is swept up by a mysterious count, attending masked balls, operas, and Carnival revels even as she mourns her marriage and dodges a deadly pursuer. “Things should happen at Carnival,” says her unlikely protector, who resembles Harlequin in more than his costume. “If they go on just the same, there’s no reason for Carnival at all.” There’s absolutely no chance of that in this psychological tour de force of surging identities wrestling to emerge in people forced by violence to confront their inner Harlequins and Medusas.

FAULT TREE

HELLO, IT’S YOUR PAST CALLING…

“Placing blame” thinks Marina Robinson, “is my life’s work. And why?” There’s a lot in her past to account for—nightmares and terrors, crimes and betrayals that happened half a world away, ten years go. Now she’s an engineer with a great job. She’s a failure analyst, an investigator who figures out what causes accidents, and she’s working on her most fascinating case—the fatal crash of a roller coaster--when suddenly the phone rings. And her world tilts…

The elusive, unidentified caller can be only one person—Catherine, her beloved younger sister.

The Monkey's Raincoat is the first in the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Monkeys-Rainc.../dp/B004JN1D1O

Its blurb (on Kindle US, at least) is so short it's not even worth hiding it in a spoiler .

The Drowning Game by L.S. Hawker $1.99

They said she was armed.
They said she was dangerous.
They were right.

Petty Moshen spent eighteen years of her life as a prisoner in her own home, training with military precision for everything, ready for anything. She can disarm, dismember, and kill—and now, for the first time ever, she is free.

Her paranoid father is dead, his extreme dominance and rules a thing of the past, but his influence remains as strong as ever. When his final will reveals a future more terrible than her captive past, Petty knows she must escape—by whatever means necessary.

But when Petty learns the truth behind her father's madness—and her own family—the reality is worse than anything she could have imagined. On the road and in over her head, Petty's fight for her life has just begun.

The Second Death of Goodluck Tinubu is the second in the Detective Kubu series by Michael Stanley. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US. There was an omnibus with this and the first title on sale a while back, so check carefully before buying.

“The African Columbo….Like the first book to feature Kubu, A Carrion Death, this is a smart, satisfyingly complex mystery. [Grade] A.”
Entertainment Weekly

The second book in the Inspector Kubu series—penned by a pair of Crime Writers’ Association Award-winning South African authors writing under the name Michael Stanley—The Second Death of Goodluck Tinubu treats readers to a gripping and atmospheric story of money, murder, and hidden motives at a remote bush camp in northern Botswana. Flashpoint is a title in the Cam Fraser series by Felicity Young, most or all of whose Dody McCleland historical series was on sale a while back (depending on country and retailer). This one looks more thriller-ish, at least judging by the cover. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Flashpoint-br.../dp/B014CAEONW

Spoiler:
Quote:
You can run from everything but your fears.

Three years after a gang brutally murdered his wife and son, Sergeant Cam Fraser has returned with his daughter Ruby to the country town where he was raised - a town too small for trouble. But then a body is found on the school grounds, badly burned and unrecognisable. Who in Glenroyd could possibly be a murderer? And why?

This violent crime plunges Cam straight into a baffling and deadly investigation, where nothing is as it seems. From shady cop Vince to the secretive Smithsons who run the school to the local bikie gang who may still want him dead, Cam has his hands full with suspects. Not to mention Jo, his daughter's teacher, whom he can't keep his mind off of ...

But the danger is coming closer to home, and Cam is running out of time to solve the case. Will he be able to protect Ruby and stop the killer? Or will everything go up in flames?

Detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are back—and they’re going into the wild to find a killer. Die Again is the latest heart-pounding thriller in Tess Gerritsen’s bestselling series, the inspiration behind TNT’s hit show Rizzoli & Isles.

When Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are summoned to a crime scene, they find a killing worthy of the most ferocious beast—right down to the claw marks on the corpse. But only the most sinister human hands could have left renowned big-game hunter and taxidermist Leon Gott gruesomely displayed like the once-proud animals whose heads adorn his walls. Did Gott unwittingly awaken a predator more dangerous than any he’s ever hunted?

Maura fears that this isn’t the killer’s first slaughter, and that it won’t be the last. After linking the crime to a series of unsolved homicides in wilderness areas across the country, she wonders if the answers might actually be found in a remote corner of Africa.

Six years earlier, a group of tourists on safari fell prey to a killer in their midst. Marooned deep in the bush of Botswana, with no means of communication and nothing but a rifle-toting guide for protection, the terrified tourists desperately hoped for rescue before their worst instincts—or the wild animals prowling in the shadows—could tear them apart. But the deadliest predator was already among them, and within a week, he walked away with the blood of all but one of them on his hands.

Now this killer has chosen Boston as his new hunting ground, and Rizzoli and Isles must find a way to lure him out of the shadows and into a cage. Even if it means dangling the bait no hunter can resist: the one victim who got away.

BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Tess Gerritsen's Playing with Fire.

I debated yesterday on getting this book. It sounded so great. I did not get it. I searched the libraries I am a member and no one had it. So I thought oh well. I do not need something else on my TBR list. Well I thought about it while laying in bed last night thinking I should get up and get the book. I didn't do that. Thankfully it was still $1.99 today. So I quickly grabbed it. Thanks a bunch.
