I've never had a membership before. I've gotten a bunch of free audiobooks, and a large slew of $3.77 short stories (Agatha Christie) that I just paid for. So this deal ought to be available to me.

$1.99 -- Last Days of Stalin -- Joshua Rubenstein/ Arthur Morey --> 8.8 hrs/ R-4.1 --> history

Quote:
Whispersync: no deals at this time | Audible

A scholarly, absorbing narrative of Stalin’s last days and the turbulent wake of his dictatorship.

Joshua Rubenstein’s riveting account takes us back to the second half of 1952, when no one could foresee an end to Joseph Stalin’s murderous regime. He was poised to challenge the newly elected US president Dwight Eisenhower with armed force and was also broadening a vicious campaign against Soviet Jews. Stalin’s sudden collapse and death in March 1953 was as dramatic and mysterious as his life. It is no overstatement to say that his passing marked a major turning point in the twentieth century.

The Last Days of Stalin is an engaging, briskly told account of the dictator’s final active months, the vigil at his deathbed, and the unfolding of Soviet and international events in the months after his death. Rubenstein throws fresh light on the devious plotting of Beria, Malenkov, Khrushchev, and other “comrades-in-arms” who well understood the significance of the dictator’s impending death; the witness-documented events of his death as compared to official published versions; Stalin’s rumored plans to forcibly exile Soviet Jews; the responses of Eisenhower and Secretary of State Dulles to the Kremlin’s conciliatory gestures after Stalin’s death; and the momentous repercussions when Stalin’s regime of terror was cut short.

$3.95 -- Indignation -- Philip Roth/ Ray Chase --> 4.2 hrs/ R-4.2 --> historical

Quote:
Whispersync: no deals at this time | Audible

In 1951, the second year of the Korean War, a studious, law-abiding, and intense youngster from Newark, New Jersey, Marcus Messner, begins his sophomore year on the pastoral, conservative campus of Ohio’s Winesburg College. And why is he there and not at a local college in Newark where he originally enrolled? Because his father, the sturdy, hardworking neighborhood butcher, seems to have gone mad—mad with fear and apprehension of the dangers of adult life, the dangers of the world, the dangers he sees in every corner for his beloved boy. Far from Newark, Marcus has to find his way amid the customs and constrictions of another American world.

Indignation, Philip Roth’s twenty-ninth book, is a startling departure from the haunted narratives of old age and experience in Roth’s recent books and a powerful exploration of a remarkable moment in American history.

$3.99 -- Royal Wedding -- Meg Cabot/ Arielle DeLisle --> 9.4 hrs/ R-4.4 --> romance

Quote:
Royal Wedding --> The Princess Diaries (book 11 of 11)

Whispersync: no deals at this time | Audible

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Princess Diaries series comes the very first adult installment, which follows Princess Mia and her Prince Charming as they plan their fairy-tale wedding - but a few poisoned apples could turn this happily ever after into a royal nightmare.

For Princess Mia the past five years since college graduation have been a whirlwind of activity, what with living in New York City, running her new teen community center, being madly in love, and attending royal engagements. And speaking of engagements. Mia's gorgeous longtime boyfriend, Michael, managed to clear both their schedules just long enough for an exotic (and very private) Caribbean island interlude where he popped the question! Of course Mia didn't need to consult her diary to know that her answer was a royal oui.

But now Mia has a scandal of majestic proportions to contend with: Her grandmother's leaked fake wedding plans to the press that could cause even normally calm Michael to become a runaway groom. Worse, a scheming politico is trying to force Mia's father from the throne, all because of a royal secret that could leave Genovia without a monarch. Can Mia prove to everyone - especially herself - that she's not only ready to wed but ready to rule as well?

$3.95 -- The Night Circus -- Erin Morgenstern/ Jim Dale --> 13.7 hrs/ R-4.2 --> literary

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($3.95) | Kindle ($9.99)

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus per*formers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

Quote:
TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking

Whispersync: Audible ($4.99) | Kindle ($14.99)

For anyone who has ever been inspired by a TED talk...

...this is an insider's guide to creating talks that are unforgettable.

Since taking over TED in the early 2000s, Chris Anderson has shown how carefully crafted short talks can be the key to unlocking empathy, stirring excitement, spreading knowledge, and promoting a shared dream. Done right, a talk can electrify a room and transform an audience's worldview. Done right, a talk is more powerful than anything in written form.

This book explains how the miracle of powerful public speaking is achieved, and equips you to give it your best shot. There is no set formula; no two talks should be the same. The goal is for you to give the talk that only you can give. But don't be intimidated. You may find it more natural than you think.

Chris Anderson has worked behind the scenes with all the TED speakers who have inspired us the most, and here he shares insights from such favorites as Sir Ken Robinson, Amy Cuddy, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Salman Khan, Dan Gilbert, Mary Roach, Matt Ridley, and dozens more - everything from how to craft your talk's content to how you can be most effective on stage. This is the 21st-century's new manual for truly effective communication and it is a must-listen for anyone who is ready to create impact with their ideas.

Fat Angie

Book Length --> SYNC download= 6h 19m | Audible= 6h 27m

Angie is the only one in her family—maybe the only one in the world—who believes her captured war-hero sister is still alive. Angie needs to believe it. It’s better than thinking about last year, when she tried to kill herself in front of a packed gym. Better than trying to steer clear of Stacy Ann Sloan and her posse of ultra-mean girls. Better than dealing with her corporate-lawyer mother, who wants to know only one thing: When is Angie going to lose exactly twenty-nine pounds?

Then a new girl, KC, arrives in Dryfalls, Ohio. She’s beautiful, hip, and smart, and everyone wants to know her. From the minute they meet, KC sees the real Angie, not the fat girl hiding from her pain under a mountain of junk food. She sees Angie for who she really is: someone who just might shake things up—on the basketball court and in KC’s life. Outrageous and touching, this darkly comic, anti-romantic romance brings us unforgettable characters on the edge.

On the Jellicoe Road

Book Length --> SYNC download= 8h 53m | Audible= 8h 53m

Taylor Markham is now a senior at the Jellicoe School, and has been made leader of the boarders.

She is responsible for keeping the upper hand in the territory wars with the townies, and the cadets who camp on the edge of the school's property over summer. She has to keep her students safe and the territories enforced and to deal with Jonah Griggs—the leader of the cadets and someone she'd rather forget.

But what she needs to do, more than anything, is unravel the mystery of her past and find her mother—who abandoned her on the Jellicoe Road six years before.

The only connection to her past, Hannah, the woman who found her, has now disappeared, too, and the only clue Taylor has about Hannah and her mother's past is a partially written manuscript about a group of five kids from the Jellicoe School, twenty years ago.

GA Russell posted this ebook on another thread. Since the Whispersync narration is only $3.47, and the ebook is free, the Whispersync deal is only $3.47.

The book is Radical Islamic Terrorism In America Today, by R.J. Parker, et al. I couldn't find as many reviews or ratings as I like to have to feel confident in the quality of a book, but they are all 5's over the 17 reviews/ratings that I found.

Though a small town at heart, Lawrenceton, Georgia, has its dark side - and its crime buffs. One of them is librarian Aurora "Roe" Teagarden, a member of the Real Murders Club, which meets once a month to analyze famous cases. It's a harmless pastime - until the night she finds a member killed in a manner that eerily resembles the crime the club was about to discuss.

As other brutal "copycat" killings follow, Roe will have to uncover the person behind the terrifying game, one that casts all the members of Real Murders, herself included, as prime suspects - or potential victims.
