What a delightful image. Makes me think of a post apocalyptic story.

I found that older remote one day and removed the batteries from it. That Stick remote had not been used in 1 1/2 years, so I'm surprised the batteries were still good, but at any rate after I basically disabled the Stick's remote the newer remote started behaving a lot better. But it still freezes up every one in a while. I get the feeling the Alexa feature will be interfering with the Echo I bought, so that might be another issue to resolve!
I can tell you, there are no issues with having an Echo and the FireTV. I just got mine a bit ago. My Echo is sitting like 10 feet from my TV. But since you don't say her name, its fine. I mean on the FireTV remote you have to hold down the button and not say her name. I have a remote with my Echo and sometimes I use it from the bedroom upstairs to ask her something. . I can't yell down that far, but I can hear it just about.
I still love my Echo like crazy. One of the best gadgets I ever got. After my kindles of course. The hands free is the best part of it for me.

But holy moly I got frustrated with the FireTV. Which really, was all my fault. I blame this Texas heat on frying my brain cells. Its so friggin hot
Anyway, I thought it was kaputt as Netflix looked like an LSD induced snowstorm. I thought the video part was not working, that was just on the main netflix page. I couldn't even see anything to click on.
But oh well, should have checked for updates first.

All good now.

But is there anything worse than having to authorize and type in emails with remotes a gazillion times every time one gets a new device? OMG, go there, sign in to tv provider, type this code, darn, wrong password. Ahhhhhhhh.

I am glad I can now prime play lists from my main TV/Stereo. I had one of those first cheap $19 Fire sticks and that thing locks up on everything. Can't even play music without skipping. Constantly lost internet connection.
I believe the current stick models are better than that very first one.
I have used a Roku 3 on this TV for some time and its great, just can't do prime songs on it. Plus I need it on the upstairs TV as the old Roku is about kaputt. I do miss the universal search from the ROku where it shows you exactly what app, what service something is available on.

I am probably done with the prime stuff, I got my FireTV, I got the $50 GC from amazon store card thanks to tubemonkey and I try not to just buy stuff.

Unless something pops up later, I got some nice deals. Oh, I also got a Vivofit the other day in the pre prime day which I love a lot.

That one didn't involve a specific device, so I think it's pretty lame on Amazon's part to end it before the end of the sale.

People coming home from work are gonna get quite ticked off when they realize that the best part Prime Day is pretty much over.

I got the original Fire TV Stick when they first came out and paid $19 for it. It wasn't worth 2 cents though. A total piece of junk. I had to unplug it everytime I was through using it else I could not switch the TV input back to cable service. No other set top box has ever done that to my TV. And like you said, the Stick just didn't work well at all. I've also got the Amazon Prime app built into a Vizio smart TV in my study, and that is just as worthless as the Stick. It never shows video in HD, only SDTV resolution, so major fail. The Fire TV box though is really good.

I've been saying "Alexa" when I use the remote with my Fire TV. I didn't realize you could use it without saying "Alexa", but I see how that makes sense since I have to push a button to activate it. I'll stop saying "Alexa" to it now that I know that. Thanks for the info.

I only bought the Echo today. I briefly browsed a few other categories but didn't really need or want anything that was on sale.

I had the first Fire Stick and it didn't seem very good. I sold it. Later, I got another, which I still use and seems fine. I think it was also a first gen, but maybe some updates improved it. I haven't had the problems with it, that I had with the first. But I had also switched to a better router between Fire Sticks.

Maybe I'll give my son my Stick and take the new one for myself. He isn't apt to use it as much as I do.

I just want to point out that you cannot use a standard universal remote. At least not an IR remote since both FireTV and stick use RF remotes. Not sure exactly what technology they use, but I can control my FireTV and the stick from anywhere in the house without line of sight. Each remote has its own serial number and can only be linked to one device at a time (though more than one remote can be linked to the same FireTV or stick).

The only other way would be through a universal IR remote that is linked to the TV if the TV supports HDMI-CEC, but it won't be fully functional (e.g. no voice control).

Mentioning voice - the FireTV remotes probably won't interfere with an Echo if you don't say the wakeup word "Alexa". You can say "Alexa", but it is optional.

LOL! Mine go nuts every time I make a liverwurst sandwich. Hard to eat when two cats are stalking my lunch. I have to be careful unless they pull a routine on me the way the dogs did to the kid in the animated movie UP. I answered my front door a while back just after starting to eat a Long John Silvers fish meal. When I returned to my meal half of the fish was on the floor being devoured!

I ordered a Fire 7 inch this morning. Now I'm debating on cancelling and getting the $50 Blu phone instead. I don't need a phone, heck, I don't really need a tablet, I just want something to play audibles and sometimes tts in the car. The Blu phone has no reviews so far, hmm.

Well I made a second Prime Day purchase. I went to rent Kung Fu Panda 3 to watch on my Fire TV. It rents for $5.99, but they had a note that it was 50% off of the purchase price for Prime Day, so I bought it for only $6.99. A good deal!

$33 is amazing, if you need a tablet. Better than using a phone as a mini tablet.

I paid $150 for my 2011 7 inch, and that was on sale from 200.

Thanks for the input, I'll stick with the tablet.

I just wasted a couple of hours looking for things that would qualify. And just before i saw this, I'd decided to give up. Almost all the "someday" items I had on my list were sold by other vendors, not Amazon.

I did buy a 64gb micro SD card for $15 and some new pillows, and this morning I got the $50 gift card deal. Plus I got the $40 off home services yesterday. So I'm content.
