I think it was that book and either the one before or after it that hooked me on the series. I eventually didn't like where it went and stopped reading, but I agree that that's one of her best.

Don't know if either of you like older romantic suspense, but there's an Elizabeth Lowell series ("Donovans" - starts with Amber Island) that is one of my favorites. Pearl Cove was my absolute favorite of the bunch. It's been awhile, so I could be wrong, but I think this is old-school enough that you don't get a lot of the hero's thoughts the way you do in today's books. You're left to decide if he's really a good guy or just an alpha-jerk. Some of her books go too far into the jerk category for my tastes, but I do remember loving the Donovans.

This is the reason I love first person narration because it does keep you guessing. It's my prefer choice when reading however I don't like the new trend where POV switches between the heroine and hero thoughts. I don't want to know his thoughts unless it's absolutely necessary. This is why I adore Tiffany Snow's and Kristen Ashley's stories.

I put a hold on the Donovans at my library. Thanks for the recommendation. I actually gave book two of Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter series two stars. if I read it now maybe I'd rate it differently. I think you just have to get use to her style of writing. She switches so much up to four story lines you feel like it's a night time drama or a soap opera. I also think my tastes have really change in the last year. I prefer strong plots with lots of action and less sex. I actually skim over the love scenes if I feel they are just filler. So a good plot is a must.

I know I have all the Troubleshooters, but I don't remember how many I've actually read. I know I liked a couple of them. I tend to judge category romance/romantic suspense on a different scale because of the limitations the authors have imposed on them from HQN/Silhouette.

Hope the Donovan's work out for you.

Two AllRomance freebies. The box set is normally 7.99 USD, the other 1.99 USD.

Heaven Hill Box Set, by Laramie Briscoe. E-Pub and .mobi. (And bikers. Lots of bikers.)
Spoiler:

Get the first four books in the best-selling Heaven Hill Series in one box set.

Book #1 - Meant To Be

Single Mother Denise Cunningham meets her match when Heaven Hill VP Liam Walker convinces her to do a job for the club. Once she's in, she's not sure if she'll ever want to get out.

Book #2 - Out of Darkness

Fan favorite Tyler Blackfoot helps rape survivor an ex-reporter Meredith Rager find her way to womanhood again.

Book #3 - Losing Control

Strip club waitress Bianca Hawks needs a mechanic in a bad way - good thing Heaven Hill member Jagger Stone is more than willing to offer his services.

Book #4 - Worth The Battle

Military veteran and newly patched Heaven Hill member Layne O'Conner struggles with PTSD and the return to civilian life when his first love, movie starlet, Jessica Shea asks for his help in getting her out of the public eye.

Veteran Hearts, by Evelyn Aster. Adobe, ePub, and .mobi.
Spoiler:

NOTE: This is a rerelease for the Fourth of July. The cover has changed and fractals have been added to the beginning of each chapter. The story remains the same.

Jessica and Kyle have a book club of two at the Holiday Cafe. Jessica wants to heat things up with the hot but quiet Kyle only to find out his time as a soldier in Iraq prevents him from getting close. But after one romantic book suggestion, a goodnight kiss turns into much, much more...

This is a light and frothy novelette containing several sex scenes served to you by the Holiday Cafe. The story takes place in between Masked Hearts and Thankful Hearts and is a complete stand alone like all books in the Holiday Cafe Series.

I really liked the St. Kilda series and I'm NOT a romance person. I haven't read any of the Donovans yet, but I know mom really really liked them. She also said Death is Forever (1992) aka The Diamond Tiger is one of the best books she has read. I have it on my TBR pile, just haven't gotten there yet.

Blurb:
Spoiler:
Sergei Andronikov was a child when the Mafia wiped out his family, leaving him with nothing but a hunger for revenge. Years later, through ruthless strategy and tireless patience, he’s a contract killer working for the three families ruling Cape Swan… and he’s nearly in position to bring them all down from the inside.

Domenico “Dom” Maisano is Mafia royalty, a made man… and a hitman. He’s caught up in a violent life he can’t escape, struggling to maintain an image he doesn’t want, and suppressing desires he can’t have.

A chance encounter throws the killers into each other’s paths. Though Dom knows he’s playing a dangerous game, he’s intrigued and keeps coming back. Sergei can’t resist him either—Dom is everything he set out to destroy, but he’s also everything he’s ever ached for in a man.

Then Sergei gets the contract he’s been waiting for—the hit that promises to bring the town’s Mafia to its knees.

But when a boss makes an unexpected move, Sergei must choose between dropping the hammer on the families he vowed to annihilate, and protecting the man he swore he wouldn’t love.

And the wrong choice—or even the right one—will destroy them both.

Anyone wake up to this nice surprise?

Earn Adjustment: 2016 Harlequin My Rewards Anniversary Bonus 1000

I have no clue what it means but hey I will take it. It gave me enough for a ebook.

I just finished Out of Control by Suzanne Brockmann (5 stars) for me the story of Rose and Hank just made the book a 5 star for me. I cried at the end. The other couples are just bonus but I found it just so different from anything I've read that I just fell in love with them.

No reading for this week. I'm in meetings all week and actually had to put my Kobo up so I wouldn't be tempted. lol

Yes, once I got into my Harlequin rewards, I was quite surprised by the extra 1000 points. Don't know what it's for either but it puts me closer to another free coupon.

I'm locked out again, still waiting for them to fix my account so I can log in. I emailed them on Thursday, but with the holiday weekend I guess it won't be until this week.

How did you get locked out? It makes no sense why it keeps happening.
