Request: initial firmwares extracted from brand-new devices

The Master Index is a good way to direct people to the various widespread topics of interest and give people a link trail to follow. Ideally people would read that and find the jailbreaks, but experience shows they need more encouragement so a special-interest jailbreak index would probably help too.

That demo.bin file is supposed to be for a PW1, I think. And I believe it is being (slowly) uploaded somewhere NOW. But if you already have one, GREAT! And we can add Oasis support if and when somebody donates the resource we need (the major point of this thread).

We are still one model (the Oasis) away from having support for jailbreaking the entire model line.

That will change as soon as we get a response to this request and/or someone locates a "Demo Oasis" device.

Please do the capture regardless.
There is a suspicion that it was recently changed.

It should not matter that it has 3G or ads -
This is an image of the USB storage area only (not of anything related to those options).

PM me if you have a problem with my directions in the 'HowTo' or need a place on the Internet to push the image (it will be or should be big).
Note that the directions are for a Linux PC -
I don't know how to do the image capture on a different OS -
Perhaps GM or NiLuJe does.

Good to know. I wasn't sure about whether the 3G model would call home when you first turn it on or something. Only had WiFi Kindles until now. Running Xubuntu on my Chromebook so I should be okay with the steps, but I'll let you know.

knc1 -- I will leave that to you, you deserve the honors, I think. Since you were the straw that broke the camel's back, and thereby caused the mess.

Have you considered using the site Wiki rather than forum posts? It's really a much better place to put information of long-term value. Posts, by their very nature, are ephemeral and difficult to keep track of. The Wiki is ideal for factual information that people can easily locate.

It will try, but be firm and insistent with it.
Some aluminum foil around the 3G antenna area might help you reach the 'airplane mode' button in a hurry also.

I usually use a linux VM running in VirtualBox for stuff like that. It supports USB pass-through (though unreliable with kubrick because of the fast USB mode switch). However, I have also had success using a windows version of netcat. I like to gzip the data stream so it transfers faster over the USB bandwidth bottleneck, but that is optional. There are examples of moving data with netcat in my in my "geekmaster kindle video player" thread. The problem is that you want to be in diags to capture main, and getting there without writing jailbreak stuff on main might be difficult. I have not done that on recent "factory fresh" firmware. I need to go check out your capture instructions (though busy getting ready for "doctor stuff").

We do not want any of that.

This is only an image copy of the USB storage area, nothing from the internals.

But the poster has Linux, so no problems with capturing from the root of the storage area (as contrasted to the root of the file system that is exported).
