Incorrect "Date Modified"

In OS X, Preview, the standard pdf reader, has a bad habit of reformating and corrupting pdfs if users look at it funny. (One reason I prefer djvu to pdf - I can avoid Preview.)

Mac users may need to watch the date created and date modified, and replace files when they're modified. If embedding metadata also counts as a modification, Mac users may need to keep track of which files were modified by which software.

Unfortunately, Calibre and Finder specify different dates modified.

Other than replacing Preview with another reader, and re-dowloading most pdfs, I'm not sure what would work with Calibre.

Modified in Calibre: is ANY change to the database for that title.
Metadata, Formats added/deleted, tags used (in definition table), even the backup OPF forced refresh. This is different from the Modified FILE property for the books format

Okay, so is there any way to watch for file corruption?

Stop using whatever does it.

Calibre does not do this without USER actions

... Preview, the default pdf viewer, corrupts files; it's a known bug with recurring complaints. I've installed Clearview, another highly-rated pdf viewer, but haven't been able to scroll in it, so haven't been able to use it.

P.S. I've set up a Finder search, listing any pdfs with Preview's encoding in my Ebook libraries. That should give me a heads-up for any corrupt files in my Calibre library.
