Do any eReaders automatically sort books by series?
Title says it all. I'd love an eReader that can sort books, so I can browse them by Author->Series->Book.

Well now most can sort by Author. I don't think the rest is possible. Unless you only read Sue Grafton.

I have all the series information, but when I sync books over to my wife's nook or my kindle, that information isn't used to sort anything into collections. That's still a manual process.

I put all that info in Calibre and when I put my books on any of my Sonys, I can see those collections if I want to sort my books that way. Too bad Sony got out of the ereader market a few years back.

The only ereaders I have heard of that used series information when sorting were Kobo devices running firmware version 2.3.2. Or thereabout. For one or two firmware versions at that time, the title was treated as "series - series index - book title". All sorting on the title used that. It was fixed because as useful as that was, it was also wrong.
One problem with series sorting is that the series info is not part of the standard metadata. Most devices don't know about it, and hence can't sort on it. The simplest workaround is to use a metadata plugboard in calibre to set the book title to include the series info when it is sent to the device. Kobo devices do store series info and it is populated for books purchased from them. And the KoboTouch driver can set it for sideloaded books. Current firmware displays this but doesn't sort on it. You can search for it and see all books in a series. The driver can automatically create collections for each series. |

Just get any reader that can browse directories and then "save to disk" the books from Calibre.
This is an example of "save to disk" template {author_sort:.1}/{authors}/{series:|# |}/{series_index:0>3s|| - }{title} - {authors}/{series_index:0>3s|| - }{title} - {authors} Use this template as an example, it creates a directory for each book with the name of series, series number and title and then puts all formats of the book into the directory. I created this long ago from a sheer desperation when the new models of PocketBooks screwed up the "display the filenames" option in library and started to display metadata instead (and the default title doesn't have series number ) You can also use Metadata Plugboards in Calibre and change title to contain series info and number together with the actual book title so you can use any e-book reader. |

This is what I've done for years on my various devices, and find it entirely satisfactory. I therefore don't use collections.

Here is a god run-through of the process: http://www.howtogeek.com/114063/how-...-ebook-series/
There is also the following thread for sharing plugboards and asking for help with a custom plugboard: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=100949 |
