I don't think it make sense to have a "touch to turn" function with the DPT-S1, the screen is big and you can easily accidentally touch any part of it. swipe is better.

The things that I would love to have in the the Sony are: - Crop function (or at least zooming without the black bar and with the ability to highlight text, and save the level of zooming) - Bookmarks list in the side bar (just like the tabs) These that I miss most. |

I see that DPT-S1 has reduced price on amazon.com. The price now is 699$.

BH Photo is a very respected eshop in the US. I am not sure about its deals with EU. |

There is also some US law against shipping devices with batteries internationally, or at least there was. It's possible that BH Photo won't be able to ship the device to the EU.

Generally I'm happy to pay taxes and by no means condone tax-evasion. On the other hand paying hundreds of euros extra for a device that isn't available in my country, rendering warranty arrangements highly inconvenient (if not impossible) in context of both money- and time-resources, isn't amongst my primary sources of joy either. I also bought my unit from an individual on Yahoo Japan auctions, which was a bit risky in and by itself. It was a bit cheaper than from BHPhoto and the transaction was successful. As pointed out, BHPhoto seems like a respectable business, so I personally wouldn't worry purchasing from them. There is also Taobao, but I have no experience shopping there. Always when buying from Internet auction sites analyze the seller's user profile and feedback, and - if possible - their communication style. Then put that in proper context and your expectations should become more realistic and risk assessment more accurate. To those of you who for whatever reason are considering getting a Japanese unit I can say this: All you need is the English manual and average short-term memory. I certainly don't have a problem using mine (I don't know Japanese). It may help if you can read katakana, but in the end there are not many places to go around in the UI - it doesn't matter what the text says, but what happens after you push buttons. There are also apps for smart devices that allow you to take photos of text and the app interprets it using OCR and gives you a translation (just equip yourself with some common sense and good sense of humor when deciphering some of the translations). |

Has anyone put Android on theirs yet? I'm wondering what the experience is like overall and if it's worth the price. Searching large PDFs and some other operations are painfully slow on this device, so maybe there are Android apps that are faster.

Do I need a screen protector for the DPT-S1?

Just got the Sony DPT-S1; quite happy up to now, but wondering whether the screen won't get scratched with all the writing?

I've put a matt (= non glare) screen protector foil on it after receiving the DPT-S1. Best option :-)

Surprisingly it was available in Germany: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I've bought a few things from bhvideo.com a few years ago without any problems. If I need a new Sony DPT-S1 I would instantly buy it from bhvideo.com. |

I'd imagine that the materials have been chosen so that the screen surface is harder than the tips. This logic may not necessarily hold if you mix tips and screens from different vendors. Do not let harder materials make contact with the screen. Be especially cautious with the USB cable as you need to take off the cover to expose the micro-USB port - the connector's shield will scratch the screen. |

Another factor is whether the pages contain text or graphics. In case of graphics, I'd look into possibility to convert the file to grayscale prior to transferring it to the Sony, and if other aspects of the image quality could be reduced to take some load off the device. Also, internal memory is faster than reading from microSD. |

Has anybody had difficulty charging? I have since it was out of the box and I called Sony in September 2015 to document it. Now, I am almost up to a year and called again saying I am still having charging issues and concerned about losing my notes. They said they would replace it and gave me a claim number.

I am getting my notes off the device now. (I finally got a charge in it again after two days of trying) Is there an easier way to get your notes off this device other then 'Send' each note one at I time to your WebDev account? (Box.com for me). Thanks, Phil |
