All this you likely know. Just wanted to say, as I rely more on M3, hope the new M3 annotation format is robust enough so that for future upgrades, they are fully preserved. Possibly they are already. |

@demo Several books in my test set (you'd be surprised what's out there in the wild) don't have UUIDs so it's not a reliable method. Plus there are cases where several "versions" of the same book (e.g. Drafts of works in progress) have the same UUID but vastly different content. It's these edge cases that make it hard. I need to think more about this.
Yes, I believe that M3's annotations are way more robust. |

iBooks adds their own to make it simple but that might not be great unless there was syncing and perhaps some future OS X companion or OPDS in Marvin to redownload to a desktop. An order of what seems reliable like the Adept UUID first is an option, and then maybe some id based on file names, paragraph count in a few files, etc. I mostly have commercial, or some from here or made myself so that's what I mostly see. In cases of updates, as long as file order is retained, I can update an ePub in iBooks and keep highlights. Indeed it is hard; I'll continue to think about it.

@kguil. Thx for M3 - I liked M2 and M3 is even improving the reading experience.
M2 has an issue with the epub covers on iPad Mini 1; and this issue is still present in M3: the covers are splitted over two pages, instead of being reduced to fit on one page. The only solution I found is modifying the height/width to approx. 70% in the cover xhtml. Would it be possibile to find an "in app" solution for the next update? Thx again for this great e-reader app; I'm still in the process of discovering all new features. |

The solution might be for M3 to use the same container view that iOS added a while back and is used in iBooks. If a file or chapter ends somewhere in the left column, the next begins in the right. That could also have the benefit of reducing the delay when going to different chapters. I imagine that could be a fair amount of work.

How do I get Maps to appear directly in the Menu items? Currently, it only appears under Custom commands. I read a lot of travel books, and the extra clicking to get to Maps sent me right back to Marvin 2.

This was also a problem for M2 on the IPad mini 2, but M3 has fixed it. So looks like it is specific to mini 1?

Nope, I can also see some book covers spanning 2 screens on the 13-inch iPad Pro. A cosmetic issue, to me.
That's another omission in Marvin 3, but it's already been reported to Kris and he has promised to fix this. (That is, it will again be possible to access 3 or 4 top favourite custom commands directly via in-book buttons.) |

If tiled windows is too resource intensive it could perhaps be restricted to newer devices with more RAM to work with. But then the other UX issues you mention would need to be addressed. |

I agree MDI or tabs would use useful, and perhaps limited to newer devices in some cases, particularly if and when PDF support gets added. As for operations running in multiple views, like auto scroll or text to speech, limiting them to the current view looks to be a good choice.
Edit: l'll see how performance is for a heavily marked up 2,000 page work. If there was tabs or some MDI, maybe only one ePub plus other types like cbz and PDF if there will be tabs. Who knows. You're aware of memory usage so already know what's possible. Last edited by democrite; 06-27-2016 at 10:12 PM. |

MDI is also available in the Olive Bible Study app, and has been as far back as I can remember, even on old iPads. You can open two Bibles at once (such as Bibles in two languages, or an old and a contemporary translation) and adjust the height of the window for each of the two versions. Yes, it would be more convenient to have this inside one Marvin instance, but I'm also fine with the current solution of 2 Marvin instances.
(But, it might currently be inconvenient for certain annotation purposes – if you annotate a book in both Marvin instances, there should be a way to automatically collate and consolidate annotations from both Marvin instances, so that all annotations then appear in that book in both Marvin instances. In other words, not just device-to-device automatic syncing of annotations is required, but even Marvin-to-Marvin syncing of annotations on a single device...) ![]() |

@dingsken I'm working on improving the covers issue.
@sglinert I'm preparing update where you'll be able to inline custom commands into the main popup menu. You should have it in a fortnight. |

I've just bought Marvin 3 and have imported my library. I've read through the thread and have made most of the changes to the new version re font size and dimming etc. (I have visual problems so I change a lot of settings). It's great so far.
The one thing I can't seem to replicate is that when I opened old marvin when part way through a book, it didn't go straight to my library but showed me the picture cover of my book and title/author in a big red box at the bottom (and there were three dots at the edge of the red block that showed how far I was through the book that you could toggle on and off). I really liked that . Is that still usable in Marvin 3? I've no idea what the setting is called, so I don't know where in the menu to look for it. Many thanks. |

@Grigori It wasn't a setting. Marvin Classic had a different home screen.
