Surprisingly, it doesn't seem to have been mentioned in this thread yet, but the first 10 novels of British author Peter James' (SYKM, Wikipedia) Barry Award-winning Roy Grace series, starring the eponymous Sussex Detective Superintendent, from Pan Macmillan is on sale at Kobo Canada (not discounted in the US, where they appear to be $8 USD apiece) through the month of June, for just $3.99 CAD each.

They are all couponable (and the 50JUN 50% off unlimited coupon is still working, though probably only for the next couple of hours, even if they did restore the promo banner to the frontpage) and this is the promo page for it, if you think you might want to do some last-minute impulse shopping (10 titles in all): Each title in Peter James' Roy Grace series is just $3.99 until June 30

(ETA: price-matched at Amazon CA but not Google or iTunes, from the looks of it, and only for the first 10 books, not the entire series. #11 is $5.66 CAD.)

Free Today on Amazon UK - Bring Forth Your Dead by J M Gregson

Spoiler:
The exhumation of the elderly invalid Edmund Craven proves that he was poisoned, and by one of those closest to him.

But the scents are cold and the traces well covered - until Superintendent Lambert and Sergeant Bert Hook investigate.

The detectives arrive on the scene twelve months after the victim has been buried.

Never before has Lambert had to investigate a murder perpetrated over a year earlier.

Gradually he unearths a network of malice and deceit.

Craven's son and daughter, his housekeeper and the American who was his friend all had reason to wish Craven dead.

And when new evidence conveniently arises, it is up to the detectives to take the case into their own hands.

But the decision almost proves fatal.

‘Bring Forth Your Dead’ is a captivating read that begins with the unearthing of a poisoned corpse, and ends with the unearthing of a deadly secret...

She wants him to find an army officer, but won’t say why. She just wants to know where Captain Hone is now.

Ed’s quest leads him back home, and to Harry Day, a local businessman.

Ed begins asking too many questions, and soon he is being followed by Day’s men …

Why doesn’t Day want Ed investigating any further?

Has something sinister happened to Hone?

Ed needs to get to the bottom of the matter before his own life is put in jeopardy …

I really enjoyed Dibdin's Zen books. Here's the price on Amazon AU:
Ratking: $2.71

Cabal: $2.71

And each of those 3 ebooks is AU2.99 at Kobo AU

Yum, thanks! I've only read the first 2 Lincoln Rhyme books, but they've stayed on my "get some more" list. I caught another for this same price 3 months ago; it's time to go read them both.

The Tiger in the Smoke is sort of in the middle of the Albert Campion series by Margery Allingham. (It's hard to give it a number for sure...depends on whether you count short story collections, and if so, which ones...)

It is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about 1 more day.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Tiger-Smoke-C.../dp/B00LJ1CZ7U

Spoiler:
Quote:
"The Tiger in the Smoke is a phenomenal novel" -- J. K. Rowling

A fog is creeping through the weary streets of London – so too are whispers that the Tiger is back in town, undetected by the law, untroubled by morals. And the rumours are true: Jack Havoc, charismatic outlaw, knife-wielding killer and ingenious jail-breaker, is on the loose once again.

As Havoc stalks the smog-cloaked alleyways of the city, it falls to Albert Campion to hunt down the fugitive and put a stop to his rampage – before it’s too late…

The Tiger in the Smoke can rank with any of the great thrillers in English literature. It conveys an understanding of goodness and evil more assuredly than any of them. More than an outstanding mystery, Margery Allingham has created a major novel.

At the bottom of the listing for The Tiger in the Smoke at Amazon US, there was a little quote that offered a free Allingham short story:

Quote:
Get a free previously unpublished short story by Margery Allingham, and exclusive Margery Allingham material

http://eepurl.com/-TEkj
I wasn't totally sure this was legit, but went ahead and crossed my fingers, followed the link, and provided my email to the "Margery Allingham Mailing List". A little while later (after verification), I got a response from Camilla Shestopal at Peters Fraser & Dunlop, which is a legitimate literary agency in the UK that appears to administer the Margery Allingham estate. The short story is Caeser's Wife's Elephant, and although I haven't had a chance to read it yet, it is an Albert Campion story. The email indicates that this story, "until now, has been seen only by the Margery Allingham society".

The link is in the quote above...

Perhaps worth adding that "The Tiger in the Smoke" is widely regarded as Allingham's best book. If you only read one "Campion" book, this is the one to read.

It's at #26 in the CWA's Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time list.

Silent in the Grave is the first in the Lady Julia Grey series by Deanna Raybourn. It has dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US. Silent was a finalist for a couple of awards when it was published, and I've read and enjoyed several titles in this series.

(Check carefully if you already have this - this is apparently a new version uploaded separately. I purchased this title back in June of 2014, and it shows up in "manage my content", but this version doesn't show on its webpage that I have it. I hate it when they do that!)

Also note that there are two omnibuses (omnibi?) of titles in this series for $8.49 each - these may be better deals if you don't have any of them.

Silent in the Grave link: https://www.amazon.com/Silent-Grave-.../dp/B0105XRMQG

Spoiler:
Quote:
Return to the beginning of Deanna Raybourn's adored Lady Julia Grey's Victorian mystery series, and be carried off by adventure…

"Let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. "

These ominous words are the last threat that the darling of London society, Sir Edward Grey, receives from his killer. Before he can show them to Nicholas Brisbane, the private inquiry agent he has retained for his protection, Sir Edward collapses and dies at his London home, in the presence of his wife, Julia, and a roomful of dinner guests.

Julia is outraged when Brisbane visits and suggests that Sir Edward has been murdered. It is a reaction she comes to regret when she discovers the damning paper for herself, and realizes the truth. Determined to bring her husband's murderer to justice, Julia engages the enigmatic Brisbane to help her investigate Edward's demise, following a trail of clues that lead her to even more unpleasant truths, and ever closer to a killer who waits expectantly for her arrival.

first omnibus link, contains Silent in the Grave, Silent in the Sanctuary, Silent on the Moor: https://www.amazon.com/Deanna-Raybou.../dp/B01BKJVE8G

second omnibus link, contains Dark Road to Darjeeling, The Dark Enquiry, Silent Night (novella): https://www.amazon.com/Deanna-Raybou.../dp/B01D8H8Y9A

Murder in Waiting (apa Sleeping in the Blood) is the fifth in the Augustus Maltravers series by Robert Richardson. It is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about the 1 3/4 day.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Murder-Waitin.../dp/B0187EK76W

Spoiler:
Quote:
‘Tense, well-written and wickedly accurate on modern ad-world and Sixties foibles’ - The Times

Swinging London, 1968.

Record producer Barry Kershaw is at the top of his game.

Rich, successful and deeply, deeply unpleasant, he is fawned over – but despised.

And then, one night, he falls from a Maida Vale balcony to his death.

Jenni Hilton – beautiful, intelligent and a successful actress, vanishes from the London scene soon afterwards.

Did she know something about Barry Kershaw's death?

Around twenty years later, writer and freelance journalist Augustus Maltravers starts to wrestle with these questions.

Was Kershaw's death an accident? Did he jump? Or was he pushed?

As Maltravers begins to delve into the past, another character who saw Kershaw on the night of his death, dies suddenly.

Is this an unfortunate coincidence or is there a more sinister force at work?

As he uncovers more of the story, Maltravers finds himself face to face with some of the brightest stars of the 1960s, their histories and their shared secrets.

Although time has passed, some legacies of those years remain.

Particularly for one person. The only person who ever loved Barry Kershaw. Who is still out there, waiting, and ready to wreak vengeance…

The C.I.D. Room (apa All Leads Negative) is the first in the Inspector Fusil series by Roderic Jeffries (writing as Peter Alding). It's a US Kindle Countdown deal for about 4 3/4 more days, at $0.99.

link: https://www.amazon.com/C-I-D-Room-Ro.../dp/B01G3VAILU

Spoiler:
Quote:
Detective Inspector Fusil loves his job.

But the recent Burchell case landed him in front of the Chief Constable and left a black mark on his record.

His future is on the line — if he can’t break the next big case that comes across his desk in a timely fashion, he can say goodbye to his future in the force.

Unfortunately for Fusil, his next case takes place just after one of his best men has been transferred to another county, leaving him with the inexperienced Detective Constable Kerr.

Things don’t get off to a good start when Kerr’s unwillingness to go above and beyond the call of duty immediately puts him at odds with Fusil’s all-in approach to policing.

However, after the dramatic theft of five thousand pounds’ worth of gold from the T.S.S. Sandstream, the two men are forced to work together.

Hunting down clues in an unrelated case, Kerr starts sniffing around the Sandstream and without knowing it, edges ever-closer to the shocking truth behind the disappearing gold.

With Kerr getting dangerously close to the solving the crime, the perpetrators react quickly, framing him as a blackmailer in an attempt to distract the C.I.D from their next gold theft.

Faced with charges against his newest D.C., Fusil must quickly decide if he trusts Kerr or not.

Would he dare risk a man’s life to catch an untouchable criminal and put his own career back on track?

The C.I.D Room is an ingeniously plotted police thriller that will leave readers desperate for more.

Roderic Jeffries was born in London in 1926 and went to sea in 1943. Six years later he left that trade to become a lawyer. He again changed profession to become a writer. Since 1951, he has written over one hundred and sixty novels under his own name and several other pseudonyms. He began his career by writing books featuring his father’s character, Blackshirt, a popular detective whose adventures have appeared in print for many decades. In time Jeffries branched out and began to write a variety of mystery novels under his own name and several pen names, including Peter Alding and Jeffrey Ashford.
